One of the best instructors within the BSW program. Lots of reading, lots of journaling, and stressful tests. BUT, she is so knowledgeable, makes classes interesting, and truly cares about her students. She does tend to cram too much into her classes and there was the assumption that students had already taken intro to Psychology & Sociology.

Kathy's exams, especially the midterm, are famous for being difficult. Study lots using the textbook and her notes as the majority of your grade in the class is based on the midterm and a take home final exam (don't be fooled, it's is also tough). She lectures well and seems nice but she takes forever to return work and rarely returns emails.

Toughest mid-term I've ever done. That being said, Kathy is the best professor in the Social Work faculty and will teach you the most.

Comment:
Kathy is a little nutty, but I think it comes from a good place. She's ridiculously disorganized (the midterm had an entirely different format that what she told us to prepare for - as she only wrote the exam a few days before we wrote it) and often looks a little flustered. BUT she marks easily and is open to being challenged in discussions.

In addition to teaching, Kathryn has so much going on outside of class so she's super disorganized and takes forever to grade assignments. But she makes up for it with her incredible amount of experience and wisdom. I learned a lot from her. I can't tell you how she grades because I haven't received any assignments back and term is nearly over.

Very personable, knows her material, caring and engaging. A good teacher and interesting lectures-these qualities make up for her tendency to be disorganized.

Despite coming across as disorganized, Kathy returns emails and phone messages promptly for me, and she seems to have a desire to share her knowledge with her students at the masters level. Overall, I learned a lot in her class.

Kathy rarely returns e-mail and while I initially enjoyed the class, the fact that the class average on the mid-term was a 60% left a bad taste in my mouth. She fancies herself to be a clinician or psychologist, but needs to be reminded that she is in fact a social work professor -and a poor one at that. Please take this course distance education.

Unclear, disorganized lectures with little meaninful content. Patronizing. Must study from readings to do well on exams even though she stated we should primarily use her lecture notes. Notes make no sense, nothing is defined or contextualized. Frustrating.

Kathy seemd to be enamoured by herself, why were we even forced to be there! Her class is the WORST - I would prefer having dental work with out the freezing. Boring and she thinks all men are the root of all problems! EEK, avoid her class if possible - it used to be mandatory -do it through correspondance - really boring! and opinionated!

I think that she's a great prof. There is in fact a lot of work/notes but that's b/c the class actually used to be 2 diff classes that the faculty made into 1. the assignments can be annoying but are super easy and don't take very long.....i did them usually within an hour. there seems to be a lot of whiners that take the class.

I hate to say it but I HATE going to her class, I need at least 2 coffee to keep me awake and that still doesn't help.... They is WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION, and the assignments are not worth enough for the time you have to spend on them. I have spent hours doing an assignment for her and they are only worth 2 percent....

She was cute. She was not a bad teacher, she went quite in depth, but her own personal views were a bit much. She seems confused as to if she really believes what she is teaching. She alluded to not enjoying all people, and she seemed confused about whether she even liked her social work career.

Comment:
This course made me appreciate the value of correspondance learning. Her lectures are incredibly long and dull, and basically all she does is post overheads and read from them. Her philosophy seems to be "free to be exactly like me"
