Oh, Thom, how you made my life miserable. American Politics involved a lot of reading which is necessary to pass the exams. Take all of the notes that you can manage and don't slack. I only got through this class thanks to group study sessions at the end of the semester.

I had Yantek for Politcal Methods. I wish I wouldn't have taken the course with him. For someone with NO statistics experience, the course was horrible. He is all over the place with his lectures, and you can take all the notes you want but you won't be able to comprehend them. Does not care if the whole class is failing, he will not help you out.

THE WORST PROFESSOR AT KENT STATE. HE IS VERY RUDE AND VERY UNHELPFUL. I WILL NEVER TAKE A CLASS BY THIS PROFESSOR AGAIN

I took a course of Dr. Yantek's in 1995 and I remember more from his class than any other I completed while earning my BA at KSU. As an adult with the gift (or curse) of hindsight, I wish I could return to KSU to take additional courses taught by Dr. Yantek. I would appreciate his knowledge, lectures, and his high expectations.

Definitely the hardest class I've ever taken, but don't regret it. Advice: READ the assigned text and GO to class. I have so much respect for this professor because he really cares about his students education. He is probably the smartest man I've ever met. I feel like I learned a lot of valuable information and would suggest this class everyone.

I absolutely love Yantek. He doesn't BS anyone or anything. He tells it like it is, and you can tell he's passionate about what he does. You have to be a very involved student if you want to pass his class with a decent grade. He's a tough grader and his tests are very detailed. I recommend this to anyone who is serious about politics.

His lectures are actually incredibly interesting and he gives you more insight to the political system than most professors do. However, he acts like everyone is a poli sci major and expects you to know more than you really do. If you're in JMC and taking american politics for credit, I would suggest taking someone else

I basically want to be Yantek. He's brilliant and hilarious. Contrary to these reviews, As aren't impossible. You just have to be prepared to read his material thoroughly and be mentally PRESENT for his lectures--take good notes. Highly recommend this class: while the complaints are many, it's the best class offered in the KSU Poli Sci department.

~100 pages of reading a week from the texts. Some essays I thought I did great on and did poorly, others were the opposite, it seemed impossible to predict. Feedback was given in the form of a list of expectations rather than a critique of individual work. I didn't think it was a bad class, but I would not suggest it to most students.

Professor Yantek was, by far, the worst professor I've had at Kent State. He was very much rude to the students who attended the course, providing vague feedback while frequently inserting his personal opinions, and has a condescending attitude, often talking down to students. I would not recommend him to anyone who enjoys Political Science.

This class was made much more difficult than necessary. Yantek is a very nice, personable professor, slightly opinionated but most PS professors are. I'm only angry at the fact that he takes pride in his average semester grade being a C. Good guy, terribly harsh professor. Two people in my class of about 35 received an A.

I found this professor to be extremely opinionated and disrespectful and the information he presented in his online class highly questionable. In my case, asking for clarification on his rules only made it worse and his rules more unintelligible.

He is very knowledgeable on what he teaches. His lectures are very interesting and build off of one another. Missing class is not an option. He has very high standards and it makes you feel great when you do well on an exam which unlike what others say are not impossible. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had without a doubt.

I took Public Policy with Yantek when everyone told me not too. I thought I wanted a challenge, and I got one. His class is incredibly difficult but I learned so much. I also adore him as a professor and a person. He's a rough but if you actually go into class with an open mind you'll reap the benefits. I still keep in contact with him. Great man.

Took as an online course over the summer. Very difficult professor to get higher than a "C" on his essays. Tough on grammar and proper sentence structure. However, he makes you learn and teaches you to have higher standards for yourself. His criticism of your writing is to help improve the next time around. You have to like working hard here.

Comment:
Extremely rude and disrespectful. Uses his own opinion to grade rather than being open to differing viewpoints. Doesn't give constructive criticism but rather tries to break you down on every mistake. Grades very harsh on grammatical errors even when his own lectures are filled with errors as well. Avoid any class with this instructor.

Comment:
Completely condescending and rude. I took him online in the summer, and it's an easy way to ruin your summer. I took American Politics, which is an intro-level class, but he treated it like we we're Poli Sci majors. My email interactions with him made me incredibly upset because of how rude he was. Avoid at all costs. Horrible and not helpful.
