Plattner threw me off at first, and I hated his class. He wants you to write as if everything you have learned about writing doesn't apply anymore. BUT TRUST HIS PROCESS! I am a 10x better writer from his class and I admire how he cares for his students and truly wants them to succeed and will do whatever it takes to help them if they are willing.

Plattner challenges everything that institutionalized you as a hs student but in such a good way. went through a brief phase a couple weeks into the quarter where I was intimidated, & accidentally missed a 15m 1 on 1 meeting. Emailed him to meet later the same day and we ended up talking for 2 hours about our love for the cta and it became my essay

Best teacher I have ever had to this day. I don't even like English tbh but he made it so much better. I wrote a paper that I felt like I could express myself, he made you really use your own voice and it honestly made me like English so much more. I would take another class of him, I have never connected with a teacher like him!

Super awesome professor! He would have a scheduled time for you to meet up with him. He was super mean and I thought I was going to fail the class because he kept saying he was going to fail me if I wouldn't start writing like myself and not sound like a high school student and not be myself but ended with an A+ for writing out what you have in you

Plattner is insane and I love him! He is definitely a character. If you like normal classes, don't take him. If you're ready for a challenge and a super cool, funky, lowkey crazy dude, Plattner is your man! He is very understanding and WANTS you to learn and succeed. If profanity makes you very uncomfy, find someone else. He's suuper funny.

The best professor at DePaul. There is not a lot of work, and yet somehow he still teaches good material. You know exactly what is expected of you from the beginning. The class has a good amount of opportunity for student engagement, and all the hw/activities genuinely improve writing. Take this professor if you can.

There is three major projects, readings, short writings, and weekly meetings. Embrace what he has to say about writing. I was not prepared for this class after reading these reviews but it was the best decision to take it! Eric Plattner is the best! I learned so much and benefitted from this class more than I anticipated. The work is well worth it!

Professor Plattner is the most interesting person I have met in a long time, interesting in the best way. I have never had such an amazing teacher, and I've had a lot of great teachers in my past. He talks about the real stuff. I laugh every time I enter his classroom. If you want to learn a lot about writing and life in general, take his class.

I cannot find the words to express how much I love Eric Plattner. He is the most caring and personal professor I have ever had the privilege of learning from. He has weekly meetings with each of his students to hash out ideas for papers 1 on 1. So incredibly useful and a demonstration of how he takes countless hours out of his day to help out. A+++

This professor will teach you a ton about writing and he is legit the coolest professor ever. Take him and do what he says and you will pass with an A! Man he is funny too! The class is never boring you learn a ton. Just do the homework and he will respect you. A contract for a B!

A weird guy but easily one of the best teachers I ever had. Genuinely cares about his students. Wasn't confident in my writing before this class but he helped me become a better writer. The reason I'm a journalism major! As for class content, we only wrote 3 papers all quarter and chose the topics for all of them so it was actually kind of fun!

I thought Professor Plattner was a janitor when I first saw him. Nonetheless, although I could have done without the constant swearing, Professor Plattner completely changed the way that I perceived writing. He really works with you and gives you good feedback on your drafts. Even though I wouldn't take him again, I am glad that I did his class.

Very good professor and gives great feedback on your papers. He requires you meet with him once a week to talk about your paper but it's only for like 10 minutes and it honestly helps a ton. Genuinely cares about your progress as a writer and thinker and makes you work for it. He's also pretty funny which is always a plus.
