RUN, DO NOT TAKE. She is the most unfair and strict professor I have ever had. She made us read over 200+ pages and over 4 hours of videos for the field trip course in under 3 weeks and 750 words per question on Indivisul REFLECTION, while the other trips got a 2-page fact sheet that could be done in a group. and had a more laid back trip.

Her lectures are amazing and she is nice in person, she is very knowledgeable about her content however when it comes to marking she is a very tough grader no matter how good you did you need to have a lower expectation on your grade or else you'll find yourself disappointed. There are a lot of readings so be prepared to participate in class.

Contrary to her bad rating, she is passionate, engaging, and one of the most organized Professors I have seen. She is relatable, easy to understand, and shows compassion. Always open to help. However, be warned: there are tons of readings, find at least a bit of time for most of them. All of them are fair game for tests, so keep that in mind.

Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what she teaches. The class is engaging overall (mandatory attendance). She is well prepared, which makes the materials easier to understand. However, I admit that there are a lot of "difficult-to-get-through" readings that appeared on the exams. Exams ask specific questions from the readings, so be prepared!

Her exams are super hard, she ended up marking on a curve because our class was doing so poorly (44% of the class was D or C grade) and she REQUIRES readings! Trust me you’ll feel dumb when she calls you out in front of the whole class. & just make sure you take notes!!

Dr. Ugarte is a skilled educator, a highly intelligent academic and a kind person. She facilitates rich (virtual) group discussion, is down to earth, relatable and energetic in class. Dr. Ugarte provides detailed feedback and cares about her students' learning and success. She has high expectations that are reasonable and fair. Wonderful prof!

Online Semester: It seems if you submit your writing assignments and say what she would like to hear you'll get marked easier. She Is quite kind and generous if you reach out to her and let her know your struggling, and will give you extensions.

Worst course experience I've ever taken. Tests were ridiculously hard, poorly explained concepts, optional readings appeared on the exams, marking is insanely tough. Never. Again.

Her teaching style requires student engagements and this is very unfriendly for most of us since we are lack of initiatives. Many people find she marks hard but I guess that depends on the TAs too. You must do all readings to get good mark (or even just to pass), she did discuss the readings during her lecture so I find that was alright.

Worst Prof. Does not acknowledge that she is clearly doing something wrong when final/midterm averages are like 55%, and when 70% of class never attends; a main course in the program. Not engaging. Hard marker and sets hidden bad rubrics for her exams. Its like shes salty cause shes so disliked and punishes everyone. Even those who read the texts.

She is the worst prof EVER. She tries to act "nice" but she is actually very rude and would pick on you if you don't participate in class voluntarily. Everything in her class is confusing, her lectures, assigned readings, and especially her tests. She is also a tough grader and grades the tests like she actually doesn't want you to pass.

Definitely the hardest class for second year. She assigns lots of tedious readings that are difficult to get through and dry. Because the readings are confusing, she will assume no one did the readings and will call you on it. It's stressful to sit in her class dreading participation in silence. Midterm was marked harshly with a specific rubric.

Her readings are very excessive and her exams are marked with a very specific rubric. Her exams are not well-explained beforehand and there were multiple versions of the exam with varying difficulties. Nearly half the class failed the exam while many others were at a borderline pass. She can be very condescending and will call people out.

Honestly shes the worst prof I've ever had. She likes to pick on students to answer questions in class. There was a lot of content to remember for her exam, she didn't tell us anything about what could possible be on it. Shes a hard marker and I would never take her again.

Worst prof I've had at Ryerson. Very condescending when speaking to students. Does not tell you what topics the exam is going to cover, so it's really hard to answer questions that are specific. Takes attendance when she sees that not as many people are attending her lectures.

Speaks condescendingly to everyone simply because they don't put their hands up to answer questions. Goes on tangents because we don't voluntarily participate. Her lectures have low attendance because she isn't very engaging in a positive way and in all honesty the class is really dry but then she goes on tangents about it. exam average 53%
