Comment:
A lot of people dislike Dr. Day but honestly, she is a phenomenal professor. At first, I wasn't thrilled with her teaching style (she reads the texts & basically gives commentary) but she's an incredibly smart woman and appreciates lively discussion. She's definitely old fashioned but if you can get passed that you will love her.

Mary Day is by far the worst professor I have had at the U of S. In the first lecture, she criticized millennials and gen-zs by calling us lazy and illiterate, explained that her opinion of students in university is that they dont know how to work, and said that the only time we can talk to her is during class. Do not ever take her class!!

I read these reviews prior to taking PHIL 133 and I was a little worried for the class. If you are someone that does not mind working hard and reading a lot then you will do just fine. If you are a poor writer and just looking for an easy class then you should not take PHIL 133 with her. Overall, quite interesting and unique.

Lectures were very hard to sit through as she wanted us to speak up and then disagreed with every opinion brought up. She has interesting views but expresses them in a way that feels like shes targetting us personally.

Man, I was so excited for this class, and it was brutal. She makes zero sense, I studied my butt off and barely passed. Please DO NOT even consider this class. The final is 60 percent of your grade and the midterm is 40. I wanted to die approximately 800 times. RUN FOREST RUN!!!!!!

If you have a class with Mary... RUN. Worst professor I have ever had. She reads out of the text and tests on all material she reads. Basically spent every lecture saying how she hates technology and our generation. Highly recommend not taking anything with her.

For PHIL133 she was fine. For 120 was awful, very opinionated, no discussion on lectures, she just sits and read out loud telling you what to highlight for the entire lecture ( you have to memorize it she will ask ambiguous identify the philosopher questions) She gives great topics for essays on tests tho, that was the good part.

Mary is one of the smartest ladies out there. The class is very reading-heavy, but that's purposeful: she's trying to make her students understand how to read and think deeply. She encouraged a lot of discussion. Doesn't use technology, but there aren't really reasons you need to reach out to her. Her class is 40% midterm, 60% final. Good content

She told us at the beginning of the term to drop the class if we didn't like her... should've listened. All she does is jump around the textbook making comments about the material. Extremely opinionated especially in regards to technology. Literally spends half the class ranting about how much computers suck. I know nothing about philosophy.

Change your prof if you want to learn. She reads directly from the book and classes are a waste of time. The only thing i enjoyed was that she gives good essay topics.

This was probably the most enjoyable class that I have had the pleasure of taking thus far in university. I was taking 4 classes and 3 labs in addition to this class and I still managed to pass with a high grade with almost no studying. You just need to sit in on the lectures and listen. She is clearly brilliant and listens to everyone's opinions.

Wow is she a terrible professor and person. There was a minority student with an accent, and she would point him out and exclaim to the class of how she could not understand him and if someone could help him out. If you're religious, don't even think about taking this class. She also thrives on calling people stupid and picking on people's thoughts

This professor is extremely unhelpful. Midterm was worth 40% and final worth 60%She doesnt use PAWS, Blackboard, or email, and wont take questions after the last day of class before an exam. I came into my first year very excited for philosophy, but now Im wondering if I ever want to take another philosophy class again.

The worst class I have taken thus far. Talks down to you, boring lectures, rude. I made a comment and for the rest of the class she kept talking about it and made sure to single me out. I guess we cant have our own opinions. She likes students that suck up to her. I never disrespected her but she sure disrespected me.

This woman is very old, and so is her teaching style. Nothing electronic, only reading from the textbook EVERY class. She is very liberally biased so much so that it affects her grading. My buddy and I both took this class, he wrote against what she ideologically believed, I wrote what I thought she would like. I passed with an A-, my buddy a B-

She lectures by reading the textbook in class. This class, specifically, has a textbook that is about 1000+ pages. No kidding. And she expects you to read whatever is discussed in lecture. Don't take the class if you're only curious or looking for "an easy mark" because it isn't. If you passionately love reading and/or philosophy, you will survive.

Have opinions and logic that go against the grain with this prof? Easy way to find yourself in a position of stress and a failing grade. Grades marked on midterm and final ONLY. Show up eat the food of thought she spits out and stay on the same grain as her then you pass (handily). Procure an idea that crosses hers? Easiest college F
