I first took a class from this swashbuckling maniac in 1987. He changed my life, taught me the value of poetry, personal reflection, and critical politics. He encouraged me to travel, read the classics, explore the world and learn about all of the greatest poets. He is a great teacher, a great professor and a great man. Take his class if u can

Everything is due at the end of term but if you stay on top of things then you'll have no problem in his class. His lectures are a mess, I really couldn't follow anything he said. He swears A LOT and the films he shows are often crud. However, he is an easy marker and his film classes are reasonably easy.

I was so offended by most of what this prof had to say that I dropped the class. Prepare to only have one opinion - his. He is disrespectful of religion and race and will make you feel bad about any belief you hold that doesn't line up with his. His lecture material is unclear and he never actually explains assignments. Keep away from his classes.

Everything is only due on the last ****ing day. His class is really fun and interesting, but come on man, Mark SOMETHING ! YOu have no idea at all what your mark is going to be until your final grades. Maybe he should ride his motorcycle right back to Ireland.......kidding :) He is actually a cool teacher who loves to swear, but he doesnt help you

Took his film class. Instead of teaching us, he tried to make his lectures as unclear as possible in order to hide the fact that he didn't know what he was talking about. His analyses were full of bold statements that he didn't support with evidence. More concerned with impressing students with his (absence of) knowledge than with instructing.

Probably my favorite professor, he's just a really great guy. Really down to earth, and will answer any questions thrown at him. I've taken nearly all his classes and would take more if he taught them.

This is a great class and a great teacher, you have to do some reading *in class* though (embarracing!). Unfortunately when I took it, last year, the class was overfilled and I couldn't get the anthology. Good advice someone gave me: Make sure you restate his main themes in your essays - or you better have d*mn good ideas of your own.

I don't think he knows what he is doing. I've never had a course where I was asked buy 6 books and only use 4 of them. What the ****. I wasted cash on nothing.

He's very intelligent and is usually quite interesting to listen to during his lectures. He's also very enthusiastic. One problem is that he is laid back, so I am never really entirely sure of specifications or due dates for assignments. But I am sure that the advantages of his lenient nature outweigh the disadvantages. Overall, a good prof.

This class scared me a first with the word "Politics" but it is such an interesting class, I'm learning alot and reading good books. His film class is a good class but it's too easy to get behind on the journals!!

He's against Bush. Wow, brave guy. He's disgusted with Britain's colonial past. Oh Stu, you selfless martyr. If you can stomach his ivory tower politics, the course is a wank. I was lucky I used library books to help my journal entries though, because in my class anyone who didn't flunked the assignment. So NB, kids.

I really like him as a professor. He is a great lecturer and knows his stuff. The only problem is that I had no idea what he was talking about all year, but somehow I ended up with a B in his class. His exams and papers aren't to hard to pull off as long as you repeat his opinions.

Pretty painful class to sit through. Donovan's lectures feel more like sermons. If you want to be preached at from the gospel of Stewart then take it. If you want to actually learn about Irish lit., just do the readings on your own. It will be much less painful and far more rewarding.

Donovan is a very intelligent professor. The course entails what is apparent in the syllabus. The material is broad but can go much deeper. He is a lecturer who is rarely open to your opinion. Do not try to outsmart this man with BS, he is way to experienced. Best of luck.

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about, Donovan is a cool guy. I admit, he's a bit opinionated, but they are justified with the amount of work he's done. The only beef I had with him is I didn't know where I stood in classes until the end, but he is really laid back,

He "knows" he is right and is very firm in his beliefs. I won't take another course from him but he is still a great lecturer... Have fun reading atleast one short story a week (usually more). The essays and exam were quite easy though.
