Comment:
A great prof, philosophy is not easy but he made it really enjoyable by having very accessible office hours and giving useful feedback. He was very lenient with extensions and gave chances to rewrite assignments. He dropped the lowest mark at the end of the course and was overall super helpful! I would 100% take his class again.

Peter is an excellent teacher because of his excellent understanding of philosophy and his ability to explain it. The course is difficult but he makes it a little easier. This course is not an easy A but it's made easier due to Peter's understanding and compassion when it comes to personal circumstances. He's a great prof.

Great lectures. When I had this class, I didn't want to miss it simply because he was so interesting. He is always willing to help and encourages questions. There is a lot of reading, but he supplies guide questions which definitely help navigate through the more abstract bits of the readings. Overall, great first impression.

Course is not as easy as expected but really interesting. I liked his lectures but at the same time found him somewhat intimidating. Encourages you to go to his office hours and very flexible with deadlines. Found he graded pretty hard likely bc this was my first Phil course & Im not the best writer but more than willing to help if you go see him

Peter is an awesome prof! Hes funny and very approachable. He is always willing to look at outlines and drafts, which I found really helped! Hes a great guy to have a conversation with and he gets things graded pretty quickly! He doesnt write much on the board so you have to write your own notes, but if you attend class and listen its not bad!

Difficult course to take but it is extremely interesting. There is a lot of material but it all blends together if you read a bit extra at home. He is funny and great to listen to. His classes are the only reason I attend the other classes I am in.

Seems unapproachable at first but is really good about using his office hours to help students, which I would recommend any of his students make use of because his lectures can be a little long-winded and get derailed easily, but if you ask him questions and show interest outside of class he will clarify everything quite well.

Writing notes in his class is a serious struggle. Great guy, but he's hard to follow and the expectations are not reasonable for an intro course.

Peter's amusing, was never hostile, and left helpful feedback on papers, but the man needs a tune-up. He was at least five minutes late every day and always ran class 10-15 minutes overtime. In a class of ten, he took months to return papers and didn't even submit the final grades on time. There are worse profs, but he's practically coasting.

A fascinating and very engaging man, who teaches very demanding courses. There is a subtle arrogance going on, but he really knows his stuff. Make liberal use of his office hours and have him check drafts of your essays-I found this very helpful. Inexperienced note-takers beware. His boardwork is difficult to follow, when he uses the board at all.

Makes class very interesting! I just find it difficult to follow his notes, as you need to take your own in class if you want any, he never writes them. Do not get in this course if you aren't awesome at essays though.

I signed up for this class because I thought that philosophy would be an easy elective. It really is not, it's probably one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, not at all what I thought a first-year course would be like. If philosophy interests you, and you're awesome at writing essays, take it. I'm lucky for my mark.

Peter Trnka is brilliant, but you have to be committed and interested to do well. Marks difficultly, but fairly. Extremely helpful if you go to talk to him, but is harsh on your criticisms. No BS, and i'd say the intro class with him is a lot harder than others...but that can be for the better. Makes you think, but teaches beyond the course level.

agreed about hotness. yum! he's also a very intelligent, funny guy. However, I found he expected A LOT from students in terms of understanding material (one of the assigned texts is the DSM for goodness sake), and found this course extremely difficult. As for the texts, the only one I had any interest in was Mad in America. Anti by Healey was so DR
