I used Prof.'s list of requirements and went to office hours, but received no feedback to improve my grade. He had clear favorites in class who obviously benefitted. Unless you are one of his "pets" or have insightful information comparable to a Ph.D. student, you will just be average. Unreasonable expectations for an intro class.

Although disorganized, he gives clear expectations as to what he wants in papers. There is a checklist that explains how to write papers for him step by step, and if you follow it you will be fine. He is a hard grader, but taught me how to write at a college level. It is all to make you a better student. If you want good training take his class.

O'Donnell crushed my history dreams. I always thought I'd be a history major, so I was eager to take a class with the chair department. I was incredibly disappointed with the course and the professor. Did not provide meaningful lectures. Way too harsh on participation. Took forever to grade. Even left class to get coffee. Don't waste your time.

Do not waste your time taking Prof. O'Donnell. He prioritizes his Twitter over his students. He is not clear on what he wants. He did not prepare lectures. Even if you participate regularly, he will dock you anyway. Prof. left during class to get coffee multiple times. He emailed assignments last minute. We had only 2 days to write papers.

DO NOT TAKE. I am so disappointed with this class. It was all discussion. Prof. did not lecture or share his wisdom. As a result, I learned little. There were 3 papers, and he graded harshly. He did not provide meaningful feedback on how I could improve. We never got feedback on reading responses. He emails readings late at night before class.

DO NOT TAKE Prof. O'Donnell. He has a "New Excuses" checklist of guidelines to follow, but he does not follow it himself. He gives us only 2 days to write papers. He regularly emails lengthy readings the night before class (at 11 or 12 pm). The workload was intense. Half the stuff we didn't even talk about. He does not teach and grading is harsh.

GREAT PROFESSOR!! He is very clear with what he wants and is very accessible outside of class- he also very much cares about you not only as a student in his class but about how you're doing as a person. He is a good devil's advocate and really makes you think. Great professor. I'd take his class again in a heartbeat.

I know hate is a strong word, but it is the only one I can possibly think of to describe O'Donnell, who calls himself "proDonnell." Blatantly liberal and a fan of revisionist history, his class is filled with his inane opinions. Please avoid this professor at all costs, as he is harsh on students with any sort of viewpoint other than his own.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this, Prof. O'Donnell literally taught me how to write at the college level. I could not have asked for a better introductory history class. His lectures are extremely interesting and usually discussion based, as well as very informative. You will always leave his class feeling like you have become a better citizen.

Great professor! No test but lots of papers. But if you do the reading the paper will be very easy to write. Defiantly want to take his class again in the future.

Prof. O'Donnell was a great professor. He is a rough grader especially when it comes to papers. His office hours are extremely helpful as they are required as well. He is very bright and open with his students. I definitely recommend if you're looking to learn a lot from a smart professor

Demands a lot from his students. Long reading assignments and expects you to be able to discuss during class. Couple of toughlong reading assignments. However, he is a really great professor to know here and even though they're tough I would definitely recommend taking one of his class.

Definitely have to attend class. Books are crucial to read or at least thoroughly skim as essays are based off them 100%. If you can set aside an hour to read a night this class can be relatively easy. He is always down for office hours. One of my better classes at HC.

Really interesting and engaging professor. Really lets everyone be heard in his class. Very easy to distract and he often goes off on unrelated tangents. Class and readings were easy although he wasn't always organized.

Assigns a fair amount of reading. Calls on people randomly, so it's important that all readings are completed for class. Really interesting lectures. All around great guy. Helpful in office hours. Definitely take a class with him if you have the opportunity.

He assigns a lot of reading, and is a pretty tough but fair grader. also a red sox fan:) he calls on you randomly and expects everyone to be well prepared on the readings, even if they were posted late the night before.. a nice guy and good teacher though, just a little unprepared.
