Comment:
Professor Dhuga's astr 1002 class is fairly easy, if you watch the lectures you'll do fine. He speaks very slowly so I found it's better to watch the lecture recordings at around 1.5 speed. He is good at explaining the subject and is very willing to answer questions.

There are three tests, two of which he grades, all of which are impossible to pass. The class average sucked and neither the TA for lab nor the professor taught adequately. Do not take for GPAC!!! There are better options!! Beware!!

Professor Dhuga is very intelligent, but he gets frustrated when you are not and he is an absolutely abominable teacher and is terrible at communicating the things that you need to know for the tests in the course. I often go to class and leave with notes that I do not understand and then those topics are never on a test. Do NOT take this course.

This class is nothing like the description makes it seem. Heavily based on physics, and is honestly more like an astrophysics class. The professor is rude and can generally care less about you. don't take this class if you're looking for an easy class for a science requirement.

If you have him for ASTR1001/2, his course is very physics-based. Dont take the course unless you are a STEM major with an interest in the math of the universe. Take the other ASTRO instead, its less math-based. Lectures are basically pointless; he just summarizes the textbook chapter.

A nice guy, but class is hard. You must really be dedicated to astronomy and pay attention in his class to do well, or really understand the material. I spent 10+ hours rereading and rewriting the textbook for his tests and still didn't do well. There's a curve, plus labs and homework bring your grade up.

There are only three exams over the course of the semester. Homework that is set up on a different website that you have to pay extra for if you don't a new edition of the book. Lectures follow the textbook, but questions on exam are difficult. don't take this class if not required to, it will kill your GPA and is hard for non science majors.

Prof. Dhuga is know to be the worst professor! His class is almost impossible to pass and should be avoided at all costs unless you plan on becoming an astrophysicist. His tests are all random and if you go to lecture you are not guaranteed a good grade. His tests are arbitrary and everyone always fails but a few people.

He is by far the most unprepared professor I have met in academia. He is very unclear and nonchalant with his grading and his requirements for HW and papers. It's hard to do well because he is unclear in his direction. I asked him about a paper outline--he sends us an example. Follow the example an you will still fail.

Awful professor. Could not care less about how well the students did...I received a C in class, and that was the class AVERAGE! Lectures were incredibly boring, too much reading was assigned, and all three exams were all incredibly difficult even with hours of studying and some previous knowledge of the subject. Avoid this professor like the plague

He obviously cares a lot about astronomy; he lectures with PP slides as helpful visuals and only occasionally goes off on tangents. He can be sassy and a tad unhelpful, but for the most part a decent teacher. The tests are a hard balance. You need a deep understanding, and should put a lot of work into doing well. It's not impossible, however.

Seriously guys, if you are not good at astronomy or not planning to major in astronomy, DO NOT take this class. The exams will kill your GPA and your motivation to learn. Even though the homework is not that hard, but it only counts like 20% of your grade. I'm just trying to be honest with you guys, this class is hard.

He is a great guy and very straightforward. He lays out the grading criteria and basically tells everyone what they need to do in order to do well in the class. He drops the lowest exam and that helps if you have an off day. He veered off from the syllabus a little but kept everything clear and concise. Great sense of humor too. Would take again!

Very good class presence, but his tests are very hard to finish on time. You must be really familiar with the material in order to have enough time to do well on exams. Do not buy the textbook unless you don't have much of a math foundation. Study and practice his problem sets often. Not an unreasonable class. Get help from TAs, not him.

Dhuga is clearly interested in what he is teaching. He's very enthusiastic about astronomy. Though lectures can get boring at times, he as a professor tries to make them pretty interesting. I noticed one person said he seemed to be thinking about something other than astro, keep in mind he had a family death in fall 2013. Great class. Not too hard.

This guy is simply not a good professor for teaching or if you care about your grades. Your best bet is to not take his class. But if you are forced to, ignore the book and solely focus on the practice problem set questions. God speed
