Fortunately, he's retiring. He curses students out, does not answer questions, and all around was just a grumpy old man. Even good papers would receive D's. Getting any grade over a C was nearly impossible in this class. I actually enjoyed the concepts in philosophy until I took this professor.

I honestly hope he reads these comments. I've taken this class this semester and I would get anxiety going to his classes and studying for them. He is extremely boring and stuck in the old times. The textbook he wrote seems to be in a different language and is very confusing. DO NOT TAKE HIM

His lectures are literally the most boring thing in the world. He doesn't encourage student participation so most kids sit there on their phones. Only 2 exams, midterm & final. Several homework assignments which he grades to the decimal point. FInal exam is alot harder than midterm. Makes you buy the textbook he wrote. Just avoid taking him

Has his own text that you should buy. Lectures are a snore-fest, but don't worry if you doze off, you won't miss anything. Exams are straight up memorizing the hw until the final which blindsides you with obscure questions from the even more obscure text. Avoid and Consider other PHI profs available at SFC.

Galgan isn't one of my favorite professor. In his lectures it takes my all to stay awake. He is a very boring person along with the class he teaches overall he gives out extra credit and some of the extra credit questions will be on the exams so you should be set but do i recommend taking him? if i had gotten this message before then i wouldn't.

He isn't really a bad professor. He rambles in class, and his lectures are REALLY boring. An hour and a half(twice a week) felt like 6 hours in his class. He does give TONS of extra credit, so take advantage of it. Only a midterm and final(100 questions each) straight from book but you will have to read A LOT to study for it.

Hes a really easy professor if you just listen. He doesnt give hard homework & he only gives you like 5 assignments. His midterm & final are all based of your homework. He gives a lot of extra credit. His textbook isnt hard to understand either because he made it himself. Only thing I have to complain about his course is that its boring in lecture.

Do not take him. Very boring. Rambles in class. Midterm is 200 questions of memorizing vocab. Too many assignments. Not helpful. Worst class.

Interestingly enough, it appears that Dr. Galgan's ratings have gone up lately. Could it be that the spark has been reignited in the good professor's desire to reach out to his students or is it merely that the expectations of current day students have diminished to the point where they no longer have the intellect to be critical? Who knows....

Dr. Galgan is the most intelligent man I have ever had the honor to know. He teaches at the Master's level and treats everyone as if they are on his intellectual level. Most students do not understand this and condemn the man rather than take responsibility for their work.Perhaps he is tired-of dealing with years of ungrateful student comments.

It is a tough class in general but, he is a nice professor. He is really helpful if you go see him during his office hours (and it shows that you care.. which is a plus, in any class in general). He really does care about students doing well.

easy going, sometimes, toooo much work, assignments, tests are killers, if u dont study hard forget it u wont pass, talks too much, hardly no notes then he says study from ur notes what notes! assignments r hard, u have t read n read n read to answer them, so u basically dont have time for ur other classes, does not recommend him at all.

The class is so boring!!! I fell asleep in nearly every class. The man is smart but because he just speaks about the oddest things, you just zone out without even noticing!! The class itself is easy, as long as you complete the packets he gives you, you can pass the tests. He also gives out loads of extra credit. If you need help with the tests ask

What happens when a professor loses his passion to teach? Look no further than Gerald J. Galgan of the Philosophy Department at St. Francis College. While Prof. Galgan knows the material, he is out of touch with the current student. He is unable to relate, and ultimately, students are unable to learn. It's a shame, because the man is very smart.
