I recommend this class to any one, it will help you see flaws in arguments and develop well founded opinions, which is a great skill for future classes. Use the textbook it is your friend and can even be used in place of lecture although I recommend going to class because Eric is hilarious! If you need help ask for it otherwise you will fall behind

no need to really go to class, his textbook has everything that he says in class...no surprises. tests are pretty easy if you take the time to do the practice tests in his textbook. overall would definitely take another class from him!

Really awesome and funny guy. He might babble on about stuff, but that is only because he does the rest of his teaching so well. I didn't go to his class for the knowledge, I went to his class for him.

Extremely easy class, funny prof who you will hate if you don't have a sense of humor and can't take a joke. His text is easy to read on your own and you can get high 80s without showing up, but his commentary is worth going to class for.

Critical thinking 90% of lectures was him blabbing then a short oh heres how you do it. If you can figure out how to do the stuff- exams are easy- if you arent sure- and cant figure it out from the text? good luck- your screwed- One make up test before the final

Comment:
Although the university suggests taking Critical Skills for people applying to Pharmacy and Nutrition, do not waste your time taking it. Dayton is extremely disrespectful to students as he would regularly spew his beliefs on religion, politics, and other sensitive topics that have no place in the classroom.

His lectures were captivating at first but then they just got confusing. His marking scheme is fair but he took whatever the students did personally. If some left the class early he would point them out to the rest of the class and make the situation awkward and blabbered on without making a clear point. overall i wouldn't take him again but was ok

I thought the class was boring. However, he was a really interesting prof and fun to listen to when he went off on one of his rants. The textbook is really all you need to do well in the class so as long as you read it you should be fine. Also, if you are easily offended don't take the course. He is a proud Atheist!

His lectures are fun but he's not a very nice person. He's hard to approach and mocks the students. Disorganized in his teaching and gives you no notes. Can't get a high mark either since all you write are essays and he only gives below 90

Dayton is one of the funniest profs I've ever had. He literally made the entire class burst out in laughter on several occasions. He explains things extremely well, even when students are confused about an exam, he clears things up almost immediately. Highly recommended course for an average booster, or general interest in the area.

Class was super easy. Go to class every day if you enjoy hearing socialist/atheist rants. If not, just read the textbook because you'll get nothing from his lectures.

Buy the textbook, he wrote it. You don't have to go to class, as long as you can read his book and understand it you'll be fine. If not, go to class. He's a great guy also, his class helped me write essays better, argue better :p, and also think clearer. Recommend the class though with whomever, although this guy is my fave. He's a bit of a cynic.

Great prof! Definitely my favorite in the philo department. He's a very easy going guy and marks fairly. He has us do a lot of reading for his classes and as long as you do the readings you're going to get good marks. He's also very interesting to listen to and can keep you're attention.

GREAT PROF. His rants are very thought provoking and interesting. He tells you exactly what you need to know. The first midterm is difficult only b/c it covers the hardest material - the other 2 mids are VERY easy. He is very approachable and respectful of every individual from any background. Make sure to read the txt & do all the practice probs.

Eric Dayton is the man! He is very clear when explaining what is on the exams. If you do the examples in the text, read it a little and attend classes, this will be a breeze. I recommend going to class just to hear his rants!

This class should be required for all first year students. Dr. Dayton does tend to veer off topic a fair bit, but the notes are easy to understand and the subject matter is really cross-disciplinary (Critical Thinking, Logic, and Grammar).

He's a cool guy. He likes to go off on tangents sometimes, which I found entertaining and often thought-provoking. He wrote his own text for this class, which is very helpful, but the material is much easier to understand if you go to the lectures. He explains exactly what will be on each of the term tests and the final, which makes studying easy.
