Comment:
I took his online History course. There was a lot of reading and plenty of material, which was all paced and laid out well. I found him to be a bit unclear in what he wanted in terms of the online essays. Overall, he seems to know his stuff, but isn't the most involved as a professor.

Comment:
Too critical at grading papers. Expects way too much for the information provided (expensive textbook but no lecture slides provided). Doesnt take into consideration the entire essay, only focuses on minor errors that shouldnt matter. Very condenscending. Would not take another class with him

As this was an online class, I can't speak towards Ian's lecture style or demeanor. I can, however, attest to the fact that his feedback on grades is utterly useless (and often condescending). Online tests are meant to be 300 words but it's obvious he's looking for a 1000 word paper given the amount of detail he expects. Not enough direction was given.

Ian is a really nice guy but very intimidating. He is a genius and knows what he is talking about which makes it harder to feel okay with participating in class. To me, it felt like he assumed we knew more than we did and didn't dumb down the material enough. Lots and lots of reading involved which I found hard to understand and keep up with.

This guy knows his stuff. He is a scholar that scholars reference! For little ole UPEI, he is a big fish in a small pond. Really nice guy, and seems to genuinely care about his students. Come to class though, his tests are really dependent on your doing the readings and hearing the lectures.

Ian is a fantastic prof. Very knowledgeable and his classes reflect this, very well structured and featuring plenty of visuals. He loves a class discussion like no one else. Be ready to finish his sentences for him though!

Ian, is a very knowledgeable prof and can facilitate class room discussions. My upper year courses with him were more enjoyable. 202 was at times unorganized and boring. Has a tendency to pause in the middle of sentences (which can get annoying). Actually doing the readings helps as he waits for answers to his questions for longer than most profs.

Wretched. I took 201 with Raiswell, and it was brilliant. Expect more exciting, dynamic lectures this term but watching paint dry is more interesting than this guy.

Dr. Dowbiggin is a fascinating prof. I thoroughly enjoy his lectures and his courses. He insists you think outside the box, rather than just regurgitate facts back at him.

I liked Ian. He`s obviously brilliant, and knows his subject inside out. Initially I found him a little intimidating, becuase he is so obviously brilliant, but if you can get over that, you`ll discover he`s really a nice guy, who enjoys teaching and helping students. He`s also got a different sense of humour, but it can be very funny.

Despite being a bit arrogant, Dowbiggan is extremely knowledgable, well-published, and helpful. He prides himself in having well-organized classes with many audio/visual extras. He knows his stuff and he's a very good teacher and a very fair marker.

i really disliked dowbiggin. not personally, of course, but as a prof. not challenging. asks ridiculous questions in class. class is somewhat unstructured. i remember him as being an easy marker. i guess it depends what you want out of the class.

This man has no clue how to teach. He doesn't care about his students, and he asks stupid essay questions. If you have taken his class, or are in it now you know what I mean.
