I was very fortunate, he came back to teach a class last semester! Brilliant man and really cares about his students! I loved his class and learned so much. One of the BEST profs Hillsdale has had. Will tell a story and then at end of class you'll realize you didn't take a single note and that he gave that entire lecture in that story. Easy & Fun!

Dr. Willson is the greatest history professor I have had. He's a pretty easy grader, but you need to do the reading and take adequate notes. He will give you a list of concepts; if you understand them well you can get an A. I'd take Willson for all of my history classes if I could.

He taught history through the eyes of his own life. Unbelievable. Amazing. One of the best men one can ever know. Get to know him, even though he doesn't teach anymore. His door is always open.

I am yet another alum who cannot believe some one could have missed everything he had to say. Apparently you heard words just rambling out of his mouth as a child listens to a difficult story for the first time. It sounded nice but you missed life lessons, worldview, and a new perspective on how to interpret the world and its past events.

Easy? Only deceptively so. He expects you to keep up with the considerable reading, and his papers are harder than you'd expect. Yes, he tells stories, but you remember history that way - and there's so much between the lines. Hillsdale lost a great prof this year when he retired. He is a great man and like a grandpa to me.
