Comment:
Professor Pereira moves through lectures SO fast and it is pretty difficult to follow along. However, he gives practice exams very similar to the actual ones, so if you know that information you will be fine. It is pretty hard to get an A because of the curve but if you do all of the assignments you can get an A. He is a good choice for 310.

Comment:
For DSO401, a lot of the workload comes from bi-weekly Case projects where you are handed a large excel spreadsheet and have to use what you learned in class on it. Reused from past years but have errors that cause confusion. They take 2 hours each if you are fast.

A great class for getting good at excel. Assignments take a while to complete but if you follow instructions you can get decent grades. lectures are not very exciting unless you think watching someone do excel for two hours is exciting, but I can't blame the professor for that haha. The curve sucks but overall I think this is a valuable class

DSO 401-- Professor Pereira is knowledgeable of the steps throughout lectures but fails to expand in any way. I'm not sure if this is from a disinterest to teach or what, but it causes difficulty in understanding mistakes made in projects and quizzes as well. The material provided by USC is great; Pereira though... is very questionable.

Not sure why Professor Pereira gets such a bad rep. Yeah the lectures aren't super interesting, but what are you expecting out of a statistics class? Honestly, he is pretty humorous, explains the concepts well enough, and loves Star Trek. It's a pretty easy A if you pay attention to the lectures and do the hw. Overall, a good experience.

an upper level Marshall hard class on excel, hard to get A- because you have to get 95%, but a descent teacher in excel overall

He is an extremely boring professor that only reads off of the slides. If you have not taken Stats before, this class will be rather challenging as his info is extremely vague and weirdly worded.

He just wasn't likable. He just comes across as overly intense. He also wasn't good with questions; he often gave snappy responses to students. The atmosphere he created in his class just wasn't a valuable experience.

Very very sloppy slides, thick accent, boring & contextless lectures. The material was easy but this was my least favorite class this semester.

No attendance but group quizzes, so its basically attendance. Class lecture is useless, and trust me on this one. Take this class if you self study well and only if you self study well. He just can't teach at all, but the class isn't too tough.

If you know stats (ie did well on AP Stats in high school) then this class will be a breeze. But Pereira is not very good at teaching things so you'll likely have a tough time learning things from him. If you're good at Excel and know your way around a TI-84 you'll be in pretty good shape. Attendance isn't required and lectures are relaxed.

He is very smart about statistics, but he is a terrible teacher. He just reads the powerpoint and his accent makes it hard to understand him. I highly recommend you take someone else. But if you do take him, my advice is learn excel and learn how to use the TI-84. If I didn't have prior excel/stats experience, there is no way I would have got an A-

If you want to get really good at Excel then this class is a great option, seriously. THAT BEING SAID this is NOT an easy class. A very hard A, but a doable B. The cases are relatively easy but the final case is very difficult and takes forever (24+ hours), start early. Pereria is a decent professor, lectures are boring, not a hard grader overall

Don't know why he has such a low rating. He deserves better. If you do everything he assigns, you should get a good grade. The groups in discussion matter a lot because if your group is smart you guys will receive good grades. Attendance is mandatory. If you took AP Stats in high school, he is a solid choice.

Course teaches very practical EXCEL skills. This 2-unit class feels more like a 4-unit class since the weekly EXCEL cases take 4-5+ hours to complete. The final takes 15+ hours so start early. He is a decent prof and hard to understand. Class is a tough A, but a doable B. Few pop quizzes and group assignments. Overall decent class and prof.

You really have to teach yourself this course because Pereira makes the material more confusing than is needed and he goes way too fast in lecture for you to fully understand the material. The discussions aren't hard but he grades you on material that he taught you 5 minutes before so it's hard to get 100s on those.

BUAD 310 with this prof is doable if you put in the work. He's an understanding guy but a little bit hard to understand sometimes. No need to read the textbook, just go over his slides and study guides. And the practice tests.

Might be hard to understand and may be monotonous but lecture slides are thorough and easy to review. Prof Pereira also makes it clear when tests and quizzes are and what will be tested. Homework is long but relatively easy to do if you follow the instructions.

Prof Pereira is just fine and gets the job done, I don't know why the reviews are so low. Though lectures may be slightly boring, he is straight forward and clear with expectations. Overall would recommend taking this course for an easy A and improvement in Excel skills
