lots of reading. Found the lectures to be one sided at times for an anth class. Helpfulness of teacher isn't the greatest over email. Discussion in class would also go off topic at times. However, the topic was interesting enough, and the teacher is very knowledgable. If you engage during class and respond, then you will do well

He is very helpful and a great prof. He does recognize you out of a class of over 200. I took his class about eighteen years ago and he really made an impression on me. Still remember material from his course out of all the different courses I took and I'm an Econ major! Really nice guy. Appearances can be deceiving - take his course.

When I fist came into this class I was worried this would be by far the worst class of the semester. Dr.Stephenson came off as very arrogant. Life lesson: appearances are deceiving. He was completely passionate, helpful, all topics where extremely interesting, and he is completely fair. He is by far my favourite professor.

The course was very broad ranging. Tests are fairly difficult and are mulitiple choice format. Dr. Stephenson is very knowledgeable pay attention to lectures as test material is often taken from lectures. I recommend writing the term paper in lieu of the final. An A is not out reach but attendance is recommended if you wish to receive a high mark.

One of the best professors I have ever had. No textbook, he provided online articles for free. Extremely passionate, wants his students to do well so is fair with exams. Keeps lectures interesting and engaging with videos and personal experiences.

Best class and one of the best professor's I've ever had. Very passionate about the content, used readings (free) rather than a textbook which was better both for content and costs. Would definitely take a class with him again.

Best prof I've had in all of my courses at Uvic. One class I actually stayed awake in. Topics chosen were extremely interesting. Fair class with 1 midterm (all MC), a optional bonus paper and final with 2 essays. Prof can come off as ignorant but he's actually very helpful. I would highly recommend taking this class. Wish he offered more courses.

Best prof and class (globalization health and environment) I've ever taken. Dr. Stephenson was extremely passionate as he had been trying to get this course approved and running for the past few years. Even though this was the first time it was offered he did an amazing job and classes never got dull. I recommend him and this class to everyone!

Relatively easy assignments but tricky midterms and final. He was passionate about the topic but he was a terrible speaker, i would rather eat cardboard than listen to him speak ever again

A super knowledgeable professor, but not exactly enthralling in lecture. At times, he seemed like he really didn't want to be there. Exams are tough - study hard. I'd imagine he would be great for a 3rd or 4th year course, but a 100-level survey course doesn't seem like his cup of tea.

Such an interesting man. Actually recognizes you out of a 200+ person class. Has so much knowledge! Great stories that relate to the learning material. Slideshows could be worked on to be more interesting, but as a first time teaching a first year class, he was excellent. Totally recommend him, go and talk to him after class too! Great prof.

Peter Stephenson has been my favourite prof so far. His wealth of knowledge is incredible, and he tells the most awe-inspiring stories every class. The lecture material is not always as captivating, but his stories make up for it. I went in not knowing anything about anthropology, and I've now fallen in love with it.

I think that class was boring, not motivating. There was tons of memorization. Did not inspire critical thinking. Dry and boring.

Ah, such a boring class! The material just seems very dry, and I don't think he helped make it much better. I think the problem was mainly in the choice of the particularly boring text. I went into this class thinking about majoring in anthro, but completely abandoned that idea by the end of it. He's not a bad prof, but he just wasn't interesting.

Easy class, worth attending class even though lecture notes are online, and do the readings! Would have liked to learn more about Europe's ethnology other than the EU in the last half.
