Heller has done a great job this semester! Life has sucked because of COVID, but he has risen to the challenge; posted lectures online (a lifesaver) and has been open to letting some students miss class for work this semester. 10/10 prof and his lectures are pretty fun too, if you like history.

He is a really a good prof. His lectures are very interesting so make sure you go to them, you won't be bored. He also does not take notes so you must go to the lectures to pass. His lectures are very meaningful and he gets really excited over many of the topics which makes it worthwhile to go.

Dr. Heller is full of incredible knowledge. Just google how much work he has done. He shares this wealth of knowledge in his class. Yes, lectures can seem dry, however, I found myself captivated by what he was lecturing. This course was an overview of the subjects studied. Great reviews. If studied the review questions a B is easily attainable.

He is the worst professor I have ever had. Does not provide a rubric for essays, didn't reply emails. Goes off topic a lot.

Great Prof. This class was quite easy although he wrote the textbook which is always intimidating. Despite that very good and clearly loves what he does.

Really good professor who knows a lot about history. You NEED to take notes, but I found that both classes I took with him were incredibly fascinating and furthered my interest in history. He sometimes needs to speak up though as he talks quietly at times.

Very passionate about history, this is immediate. Clear expectations as to what he wanted you to include in the assignment, essay, and exams. Gives excellent reviews, this man does - it's really all you need to know. Information given quickly, sans powerpoint, but will repeat the info if you ask him loudly enough. Overall, good prof.

Wonderful professor. Has a lot of insight on what he's teaching, not the boring follow along with textbook lectures. As long as you show up for class and take good notes, you will have no problem with the course. Up front from the beginning what he expects in essays/tests.

Amazing prof, he's really clear and extremely knowledgable. He pulls facts clear out of his head, and has an answer for everything. Also, his lectures are very smooth but be prepared to write a ton of notes. You'll need them.

Very insightful, great exam guides (questions on exam given during first class!), office hours were adequate and our conversation was great. Be in class however, you MUST be there because you will be taking notes every second-and that's fine. That's what university is, or at least one of the things that I knew when I signed up.

probably my favorite course I took at the u of m. excellent marxist class-based analysis of the world since 1945. changed my opinions on the modernization of china. free market my eye! perhaps a bit on the "crotchety" side, but outstanding stuff nonetheless.

Not the best "people skills" in the world, but absolutely brilliant lectures and not a hard marker for a 3000-level course. Kept my interest the whole time- take his Vietnam course before he retires!
