I'm so thankful to have had a professor like Dr. Treviño during this pandemic. He is the most caring professor I've ever had. He's really into what he teaches and just wants his students to do well. There's a lot of reading, but it's all very interesting! If you have a chance to take him, PLEASE do so!

Great professor! Class is outlined very clearly journal entries throughout the semester, quizzes (2), a project, midterm and final exam. You will need the book and attending class is required. He is very understanding however, which was really helpful given the circumstances we are facing. Definitely recommend his class. Hope you enjoy the class!

Relatively easy class. As long as you listen to the lectures and read the stories, you'll be fine. He assigns journal entries each week, with two 2 quizzes, a midterm, a project, and a final. The professor is extremely helpful, and you can tell that he really cares about his students. If you have the opportunity to take him, you should!

He wore an Edgar Allan Poe outfit everyday of class. Very knowledgeable. The class could get a bit stale at times, but discussions kept it engaging and interesting. I'll miss it. I found his grading to be very fair considering the senior level of the class. Workload was manageable. Had a group presentation, midterm exam, lit analysis, final paper.

I loved this class! Even though we moved to online teaching halfway through, he was able to switch the class seamlessly. The class mainly consists of lectures, class presentations, and group discussions. He gives helpful and thorough feedback on papers. Be prepared to read! The class moves quickly, so try not to fall behind on the reading.

The class was simply structured where we would read and do a small journal on it online. There was a written essay midterm in class, a meme project, and a written final like the midterm. Readings can be dry but they're manageable and you can learn more through discussions. He's also very handsome lmao

Super organized and punctual. Toughest grader I had at CSULB: ended up with 89.6, but he gave me the A and I kept my 4.0. A little preachy--everyone gets that slavery and racism is evil--would like more analysis. Douglass was a fascinating character. Watch your MLA: he's a brutal enforcer, and do ALL the reading.

Dr. Trevino was an amazing professor. It was his first graduate level class, and he killed it! He gives great feedback, is incredibly supportive, and is very relate-able. I love his authenticity, and it's apparent he cares! I would definitely recommend taking him!

Professor Treviño never fell behind on his syllabus schedule. He is an amazing lecturer and he encourages class participation, making class meetings very engaging. His essay and project instructions are very clear. The only thing to worry about are his quizzes, for they are a bit difficult. Still, I can honestly say that he is one of the best.

Dr. Trevino is everything you want in a professor. Extremly organized as a lecturer and grader. He's wicked smart in his areas of focus and his ideas and concepts back that up. He keeps discussions engaging and intriguing. Office hours are as helpful as any professor I've ever had and just a really nice dude. One of the best in the buisness!

Class and lectures were engaging. He encourages discussion and participation but doesn't lower your points if you don't speak. He's respectful and even when students said something incorrect or irrelevant he responded in a way that gave validity to their statement. He isn't an easy grader but put in some effort and you'll be fine.

As it was his first semester in LB, he was awesome. Work load was right for the level of the class (you have to work to get that A at the end of the semester), but if you like to read and analyze/discuss American literature, he is the professor to take. Be diligent, and you will be rewarded. -Freshman
