If you want to pull your hair out, I'd recommend wanting to write about a topic she personally doesn't like. She can be condescending and often treats upperclassmen like they've never sited a source before in their entire lives. While the reading is interesting, there is too much for a 200's course.

Dr. Devlin is the most intense professors I've ever had. The class I took with her was an elective & a 200 level. She treated it like a 400 level course & a major requirement. I was so busy with her class, I didn't have much time for my others. When you spoke in class she looked at you like you were an idiot. It was condescending & discouraging.

You will not have time for other classes if you take this course with Dr. Devlin. Don't get me wrong, she's a nice person, she assigns so much for a 200 level course, that you will not have time for other classes. Take this course, get ready to have a flexible schedule.

Dr. Devlin talks really fast and gets through her lectures quickly. I'm not sure if she included more assignments this semester since we were online, but the course load seemed like a lot for a 200 level class. We had several assignments, presentations, papers, and a group website project. She's a quick/tough grader, but I would still recommend.

Don't expect to have any free time or time to do work for other classes, you're entire semester will be dedicated to her class.

She's so informed & passionate about what she teaches & it's refreshing tbh! Yeah, there was a LOT of reading and class was all discussion but the most important thing is that everything she teaches actually *means* something. She wants you to succeed in the classroom so you can truly better yourself & the world -- cheesy but true!

Devlin is really knowledgable and respects you as a student, so if you go to her w problems she will actually try to help. This class was really hard because it depended a lot on a really hard research project, but the hw and exams weren't hard if u actually go to class and take notes.

Treats a 200 level like a 400 level... my least favorite class I've ever taken.

Dr. Devlin is a fairly decent professor. She definitely knows what she is talking about in her lectures and is very passionate about Public History. I do not recommend this class if you do not like working with others on group projects. She is a super tough grader.

Comment:
This is a discussion based class so be prepared for a lot of reading. It's also a very small class so it's expected that you participate in every class. Mildly tough grader - she tends to have a vision in mind for what she wants from you in writing assignments and it's easier if you just give her what she wants rather than focus on your vision.
