Didn't know my grade the entire semester or my final grade until it was finalized in the reports. Very heavy on the lectures and is hard to learn from. Must be independent for this class

This class is meant to be a weeder class. That being said if you're forced to take this class with Diaz then be ready for a lot of bull. The entire class structure is a mess and whether you watch the pre-recorded lectures or not don't make a difference. There's a ton of homework from the zybooks and the exams are extremely difficult to study for.

couldnt even select tags for him bc hes so bad at teaching, if you have previous knowledge in java/coding class will be easy if not thats just truly unlucky because you are going to need to grind zybook due to the fact that his lectures are prerecorded and he just reads off slides. programs are easy (if you have experience) try not to take this man

Terrible, lazy, takes actual years for him to grade things, the lectures he puts on canvas are prerecorded and they also suck. Never showed up to class but had B+ with the current canvas grades. Don't know if attendance matters but I also received an F so it probably does. Youtube vids on topics covered in class are better than his recorded lecture

In terms of actual content of the lectures and what was on our homework and quizzes, they were two completely different things. I am not fantastic at comp sci, but when looking at this purely from a course perspective there is a large lack of consistency that doesn't allow much learning curve for this class. Choose someone else

Dont take this professor if you want to enjoy life. Give you a few lectures he taped himself to watch and gives you a quiz every two weeks that usually don't even cover the material he showed. Only 2 major tests but you will be swamped with hour long videos to watch and constant homework and quiz. Lecture is a joke, dont need it.

Diaz = L + Bozo + Ratio He is a nice guy, but theres a reason he has such an awful rating. Nice guys don't always make great teachers. His class structure is horrible, and delivery of material is just as bad. If you're stuck with him finish all review q's, get through zybooks, and sweat your ballz off on the midterm and final

Everything that is mentioned by other reviews are true. The video lectures has no substances and unnecessarily long. He just reads them word by word without elaborating further, so its better off not watching them and reading the slides by yourself, but the slides itself are very confusing as well. Overall you feel hopeless,

Comment:
Recorded lectures and in-person classes are pretty much useless since he just reads off the slides and does 2 or 3 very basic example questions that do not help you learn anything relevant. Exams have partial credit + curve. The textbook and ZyBooks helps a bit. First half of the semester is chaotic, though it gets easier towards the end.

Please take these reviews seriously! Nice guy but the worst professor I've had at CPP. He was late almost every day, doesn't lecture and doesn't even leave enough time in class to go over the "warm-ups" he puts up that day. 20 mins of the class was us just working by ourselves or with other students. His video lectures are him just reading slides.

His lectures are vague and he doesn't get to actually teach concepts in the 50 minute class. Study the problems from the "optional" textbook as well. He gives autograded quizzes that have a lot of issues; he only corrects these at the end of the semester. I also had to wait two months to have my final graded. I would not recommend taking this prof.

Prof Diaz is one of the most caring teachers I have ever had, but that's not enough. His lectures are really complicated and vague, I barely understood anything in this class. If you are a freshman and you got no other option just wait another semester to take someone else. This class might make you think about changing your major so don't take him

Tony is a nice guy, but he's not a good professor. You really have to study and search him out during office hours to understand the concepts since his "lecture time" is basically useless. Quizzes are based on questions from the textbook so just do a bunch of textbook questions before the quizzes. Exams are heavily based on the study guide.

I had to rawdog my homework because the lectures werent that helpful to me, I recommend reading the optional textbook. Prerecorded lectures and zoom meetings didnt do much for me, I had to teach myself. Hes a nice guy, but in my opinion he wasnt that good of a teacher. I wouldnt recommend taking his class, hopefully hes better in person.

Promised he would fix our grades the entire term and didn't do anything until several days after the final. Doesn't put all your grades in Canvas either. If you're stuck with him, read the suggested textbook and skip the recorded lectures. Class was "warmup" problems or him speeding through the lecture slides.

He doesn't teach good at all the zoom lectures are just consisting of warm ups and really fast summaries of the slides he made and the prerecorded lectures are worthless imo. He also still hasn't graded anything from the beginning of the semester 4 months ago. If you have no other option JUST WAIT ANOTHER SEMESTER TO TAKE A BETTER CS1300 TEACHER!!!

One of the worst professors Ive ever had. His lectures are completely different from the exams and homework and he makes you pay for multiple websites just to do homework. His teaching is just reading off the slides. Overall a terrible professor and I suggest none of you take him unless you want to suffer.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. From tophat to zybooks to regular homwork worksheets, the class structure was a terrible. Prerecorded lectures that he reads from the slides, and the homework does not correlate to the lecture. There are something things that werent even taught from the slides, so i had to learn on my own. Quizzes every other week :(((

Comment:
Unrealistic expectations for students to complete a long midterm with too little time. Tests and quizzes don't reflect homework. Homework won't be graded until after midterm anyhow so doubly unhelpful. Dismissive of students' concerns. Nice and knowledgable in office hours, but overall a negative experience with Prof. Diaz. Aviod if possible. Shame
