Comment:
If you think liberal arts are a joke and you're looking to take this class to get credits out of the way like myself, DO NOT DO IT. Elder seems to think it's necessary to have up to 4 readings and 2 reports per week this 1000 level 3-credit course. I am wasting more of my time on this course than I am Phys 2 and Calc 3. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COURSE!

Dr. Elder is a great teacher and is very passionate about the material. There was definitely more homework than I was expecting for this course, but it's pretty easy and a good read. For my class, there was a podcast, a midterm, and a final essay. She will spend a lot of time talking about the final essay and basic writing concepts.

All of our readings were through PDF markups so we would be able to communicate directly on the article. They were almost every week but Professor Elder was extremely lenient with late assignments (maybe bc of the panny) Got good grades for doing the assignments & was always giving feedback. Spends a lot of time discussing the final paper

The course itself has a lot going on but the topic is really interesting and genuinely changed my perspective which is something that doesn't happen in all classes. Gives great feedback, projects are easy, and she doesn't do a final exam, just a final paper, which in my opinion will always be superior to a test.

Philosophy is a subjective subject to learn about, but Dr. Elder grades you by HER thoughts, not yours. There's only one answer for every question. If she allowed reasoning for answers, I would've done much better. She's a nice person overall, but I couldn't bring myself to take philosophy again. This is the hardest gen ed that I've ever taken.

Comment:
I took the class to fulfill some credit requirements. Professor Elder made what was supposed to be a fairly easy and manangeable class extremely difficult. She seemd to think that the more the work you do, the more you will understand the material. I came away with very little understanding of the material and a hatred of philosophy.

No textbook required all readings are PDFs. Easy course if you keep up with material and start your final paper early. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the course and structures it in a way that makes learning active and fun. Encourages you to make your own analyses of a variety of texts and share them with others.

Boring Class. No power points or notes, just unorganized lectures. Not specific on learning targets. Go to class as much as possible and try to pay attention as much as you can.

Comment:
I took this class as an elective for a Lib Ed. She is a very knowledgeable teacher, however her class was extremely boring. A lot of the content you need for exams is in readings that she posts, but they are very long and hard to read. No powerpoints or handouts. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are a lot of in class assignments worth points.

Comment:
Has readings assigned from the textbook and outside material every week. At least one thing, usually multiple things are due each class period. Group projects go on throughout the semester. Lots of work, material covered had a lot to do with social issues. Not the best or worst Philosophy class I've had.
