Comment:
His lectures were very enjoyable. It was obvious he liked the subject and liked teaching, and the topic itself was very interesting. The biggest issue was the grading by the TAs on papers, but as long as you cover everything you need to you should be fine.

Loved having Dr. Waller this semester! I really quite enjoyed his lectures and would definitely take a course with him again. He is very caring; he is a rare professor in the sense he would rather you learn the material and be interested in it than struggle. We do have weekly essays, but provided you attend recitation, you will do well in the class

Comment:
Dr. Waller was great at engaging lectures and making sure the material didn't drag. The only thing is the TA's he had were all unclear about how to grade and were inconsistent in grading. There were a few times in class that the students stopped class to try and make Dr. Waller aware of the issue with the TA's.

I took HST425 over the summer as a general credit fulfillment and it was a great class. History is not my thing (STEM girl here), but his lectures make it interesting and he is super kind. You are graded on 6 of 7 essays (you get to drop one) but he is pretty easy on the grading and get decent feedback. Really can't complain.

I have yet to find an instructor more caring than Dr. Waller. There is one writing assignment every week, and Dr. Waller holds a live zoom where he goes over things that should be included in the assignment. His lectures are interesting, and he is passionate about the topic. Dr. Waller is also easy to contact outside of class. Take this class!

This class was so interesting and relevant. I HIGHLY recommend taking it. You do write a paper every week, but he goes over what he is looking for in the papers. Other than that, you attend 2 lectures per week and usually read 1 or 2 papers that are based on what you learn in the lectures. Not too strenuous of a class, but you learn a lot! 10/10.

Waller really cares about his students and makes lectures enjoyable. While he does assign a lot of reading, doing it makes you a better scholar and immensely helps you perform well in his classes because he discusses the readings in depth with the class. Guidelines for assigned papers are given in class and major points to touch on are given to you
