Lots of reading, random pop quizzes. Goes over material fast and expects you to understand it right away. Lecture heavy so TAKE NOTES. There are only 2 major papers with a midterm and final for the whole semester. Ask for EI to improve your grade.

I still have no clue how to pronounce his name. CAPT is passionate about his class but understands that Naval History shouldn't be someones top priority. Class can be long and boring but he's pretty good at making it interesting. Decently funny. VERY tough grader on the midterm and the longer papers. Go for help and it will improve your grade

Captain Stawnyczyj is a very dedicated teacher who does not let his students slack off during class. Participation is huge, so definitely make sure you read beforehand. He grades hard on papers, but tests are fairly straight-forward. Expect pop quizzes on days you least expect them. Overall, lectures are interesting, and he repeats important points

CAPT Stawnyczyj is a great guy, just not MY kind of teacher. He expects his classes to read 20 pages of the textbook every night along with very lengthy articles. If you don't do the reading at least have an idea on what it's about because he gives pop quizzes. He also goes through the power point lectures SO FAST and REFUSES to post them online...
