Bottomley is a great professor and is always well prepared for class. His lectures are fun and interesting and lead to great class discussions. We had two tests, online weekly quizzes and the final. I am an education major and took this class to meet a gen ed and highly recommend it!

I had Bottomley for two classes this semester, film genres and research methods. For research methods he wouldn't have been my first choice to take the class with but there was no other option. Sometimes I felt he wasn't has helpful as I would have wanted him to be. For film genres I absolutely loved him and would recommend to take it with him!

His reading comprehension skills are lacking. Don't expect a good grade on your writing, no matter what skills you think you possess. He definitely seems to get some sense of enjoyment/power by giving bad grades. Oh, and he's a film nerd in the worst kind of way you can be one. only knowing 1980s harrison ford movies because of some macho man phase

I was excited to take Film Genres but it was a mistake signing up. No matter how hard you try or the amount of effort you put in, you will never get the grade you deserve. He wants you to participate, yet gives away answers without giving students time to put their hands up. Does not engage with students or allow discussions outside of his ppts.

Worst professor I've ever had here. Impossible grader. Impossible to get an A. Spent 6 hours on his take home midterm and 4 hours on his only paper and will still get a B-. Spoke every single class discussion but got an 84 on class participation. Who grades that hard on class participation!? Class could have been interesting if someone else taught.

Comment:
He seems a bit condescending. He takes points off for who-knows-what on that paper that you spent 2 days working on. Film genres was particularly easy, but his lectures were uninteresting and straight from the book, and then the workload was unusually high. If you do well yet you don't participate don't expect an A. The grading was nonsensical.
