Risk Management. Should probably be an MBA course. Professor reads only off a PDF and gets side tracked by sharing personal stories. Worked his whole career at MFS - it's the only reason he got a job at UML. He doesn't know how to teach. Tough homework. Tough Quizzes. Project TBD - Scales grades, but NOT WORTH TAKING. AVOID! skipping class doom!

I wouldn't even call him a professor. He is not a professor by nature, he is a retired CFA that expects you to know the ins and outs of the financial industry. Reads off a piece of paper with no PPTs. Claims he does not try to trick you with the exam questions but definitely does. Hardest group project ever, was more like MBA level than undergrad.

Forced elective. Worst group project I've ever had, everything was so vaguely explained. He expects you to know so many things that can only be truly learned after 20 years in the industry. I would never recommend him to anyone. Along with the hefty final project he gives a 3 hour cumulative final. Remember... this is an ELECTIVE. Avoid this class.

This class is one of the worst that I have taken at UMass. AVOID AVOID AVOID. The grades are essentially based off of exams, some case studies and a monster final project. The project is a tough MBA level course requiring in depth knowledge of various regulations . The instructions alone are 70 pages. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS! Graduate level final project that is extremely vague and unclear for undergrad class, doesn't allow team collaboration. The entire class has been entirely confused on the whole project, and he provides little to no guidance. Steer clear, you won't learn much and you'll be wishing you took ANY OTHER CLASS than his.

He's kind of "the old pro" who spent decades in the industry and just tells stories about stuff that nobody understands. This class is just him speaking for the duration of the class and you doing case studies and a brutal group project (the instructions alone are 70 pages). He's a nice guy but he ran this undergrad course like an MBA course, tough

He is not a professor by trade. For an elective the final project was on a MBA level and was very dense and confusing. Exams are manageable. Does not give great feedback or extra guidance. Does not respond to emails for days.

He's a nice guy but this class is a little much for an elective. Lectures are dry, which is combination of the material itself and him talking for a straight hour. Exams were tricky and the project seemed more MBA level... it was intensive and nobody in the class knew what to do because what it was based on went way over our heads.

Outstanding subject matter expert on Financial Regulation and Compliance, but do the reading (there is plenty) and pay attention to the lectures. Some of the exam comes from lecture discussions that supplement the readings, so you can't skip them. Grades are tough but fair.
