Comment:
Attendance isn't mandatory, but the class is entirely based on tests and quizzes from lecture, so if you skip you won't pass. However, if you do attend and pay attention during lecture Dr. Duke is amazing. Lectures are really fun and his humor makes morning classes worth it. He cares about students and wants them to succeed but won't hand out As.

Go to the lectures and study for tests. Book isnt needed. Only graded on tests and quizzes, there is no homework. He gives some extra credit which is nice. Overall good professor/lecturer

Dr. Duke is my favorite professor at NAU; I've taken him twice. His humor means no harm, he teaches the material well, and it is noticeable that he wants his students to succeed. He makes class fun and his passion for the material makes a difference in how he teaches it. I also love hearing about his family. Be prepared to work hard in his classes.

Dr. Duke was one of my favorite professors Ive had. He makes the lecture very entertaining. His dry humor may not be for everyone, but it made class less boring. Take the material seriously, because you are mainly graded on quizzes and exams. Its not too hard as long as you study and prepare ahead of time. All the questions are straight forward.

Dr. Duke is a good professor but there is not a lot ways to get points. Getting good grades on the quizzes and exams are you're only source of points. He's funny but can get bland sometimes in his lectures.

Dr. Duke is one of my favorite professors at NAU. He's very funny and passionate about the subjects that he teaches. I honestly think that he gets rated so low because the material is difficult, and no one reads the textbook. If you listen to the lectures and read the textbook, the tests aren't that bad.

Doesn't do a good job explaining difficult concepts. It is obvious that teaching is second nature to his research work. He lacks empathy toward students. Could be a really cool class but his ego gets in the way.

Doesn't seem to care for teaching. Has an ego that comes through in how he teaches and talks to students. Past students have also shared with me that he can be really rude. It is a shame he is the only option. Class isn't that tough - just follow the lectures and read the material.

He's an individual that is aware of the classes that he is teaching, but has the mindset of a college student; can come off as not motivating. His humor is dry, which displays the mentality of a kid at times because he is persistent with his "humor". The lecture material is his main form of guideline for the taught material; textbook can help.

This class covers a ton of material in a short amount of time. STUDY FOR THE QUIZZES (they're harder than the exams, but two quizzes get dropped). There is a study guide for each exam, have that pulled up during lecture so it's easier to study for the exams. If you study for the quizzes and exams, you'll be fine! Dr. Duke is also really funny :)

I honestly don't understand why people have a problem with Dr. Duke. He can have a dry sorta satirical humor but he told our class directly he means no harm. Maybe he read these comments because my class was very organized and he goofed around with us. His classes are lecture heavy but thats because theres a lot of material to be covered in 338.

Dr. Duke is really a caring guy. He has his students best interests in mind. He's a pretty funny guy and does try to make lectures fun. However, there are very few things that go in to the gradebook. He is very accessible to make appointments and I recommend doing so to clear up some of the confusing concepts.

Dr. Duke's an anomaly. He can range from extremely nice to extremely sarcastic, but he is only passionate about certain topics and makes it quite clear. If you need to talk to him, go to his office hours because he really can be helpful. Though he can be a bit egotistical at times, I truly think it's just a facade. Study for all quizzes and tests.

Info is straight forward. Goes over lectures fast so either have a laptop or print the notes ahead of time. Only need to know what is lectured on, never used the book. Quizzes kill the grades. Prof is too egotistical and calls you out for coughing during lecture. Also makes you feel stupid when going to him for help. Too bad he is the only option.

Straightforward class, in which I am doing well. He openly complains about teaching, which shows he doesn't want to be there. His teaching clearly suffers. Has a lack of compassion for those trying hard and not succeeding.

The class itself is pretty standard, the grade being composed of tests and quizzes only. Overall he adds nothing new to the topics, and is condescending. Not an enjoyable experience in a class that could have been much more exciting.

I personally really enjoyed Dr. Duke's class. I went to his office hours often and got extra explanations on class topics. His exams are not too bad. Most of the material to me was in the powerpoints that he posted. His lectures are great and he expects the class to ask questions before moving on.

Dr. Duke can be a little hard to follow at times because he is very knowledgeable about the subject, but he is more than happy to clarify his abbreviations and anything that doesn't make sense. Expect to read the textbook to be able to do well in the course. He posts all the PowerPoints, but the text really helps clear those up.
