Comment:
Dr. Nkomo is a fair grader. He won't curve, but at the same time he doesn't take off points for random things. He is incredibly caring and wants to see his students succeed. If you want to do well, do the worksheets and take notes in the textbook and you should be fine.

Dr. Nkomo was the most difficult professor for CHEM150 this semester. He is caring but expect to do a fair amount of work outside of class in order to do well. The last time I took chem was sophomore year of high school but it was still manageable

Not too much homework. Lots of learning is dependent on worksheets. Tests don't count that much for the grade though. Sweet professor.

So many worksheets. That is basically how you learn in this class. The lectures are not super helpful, and it is hard to take notes since they are unorganized.

The 4 exams make up about 90% of your entire grade, but that's pretty normal for the STEM classes here. Exams are pretty hard. He doesn't know the answer to many questions and that's when he'll say "so.. okay.. alright.. we'll actually talk about that later" and move on lecturing what he knows to explain. This confused me... he never answered later

I just stuck to the textbook chapters and SI notes, and did good on the midterms. Make sure you really know the material because he's not going to cover it in class. The final is really tough, took out my A, but his exams are more straightforward than the final, so really start out strong and get those out the way. Good luck.

Comment:
Nkomo seemed ok at 1st. Teaching not great, relied on worksheets too heavily and didn't really teach material (like most chem profs at Ox), but exams not bad at all. But final was HORRIBLE. AWFUL. Nothing at all like the 1st 4 exams. Written more like a standardized test and ruined a lot of grades and a semester's worth of hard work. Not worth it.

He is a very good teacher, but I would not recommend him for those who aren't really strong in chemistry or not willing to study outside of class. A common complaint was that he didn't teach the material well and expected students to come to class already knowing the material from the reading. Personally, I didn't find this a problem.

Comment:
He's not a very good professor for higher level chemistry. For Chem202, he expects us to know how to do the worksheet when we didn't even learn the topic. The explanation is confusing and grading is inconsistent. His tests are the hardest and have the lowest avg among the three Chem teachers. If you don't have background in organic, do not take it.

Comment:
Dr. Nkomo is a great guy but his grading makes it difficult. His grading is inconsistent and he takes off large amounts of points for small mistakes. Tests and the final are worth a large proportion of the grade, so the harsh grading makes it very difficult to do well. Overall he is a nice guy who seems to care, but the grading makes it hard.

Comment:
Because most chemistry teachers at Oxford College aren't that good, Dr. Nkomo is probably considered one of the best chem teacher here. His classes are easy; tests are alright; there is barely any homework except weekly assignment on ALEKS. One thing I didn't like was the part on orgo, which is really confusing. Overall he's pretty good.

Extremely easy science w lab especially if you have taken some kind of chem in high school. Doesn't mean that you will get an A if you don't pay attention though.
