Comment:
Brain and behaviour looked like a very difficult course as it dove deeply into neurological interactions resulting from drug use. However, Jay explained topics in ways that made them easy to understand - such an important thing to do for such a complex study. The course was hard, but was manageable, and it is a required course for BA. Take Jay.

Super cool guy! Knows his stuff and is willing to help. Goes into full detail on topics that are difficult. 2 somewhat difficult tests so your grade is pretty much based on that. definitely take his class.

Jay makes his lectures really enjoyable, would recommend to everyone! His questions are from his lecture slides, no textbooks needed. Also he doesn't go too heavy on assignments or homework.

He is a GREAT professor. So passionate about his subject. He does not waste time, remains on topic. Explains the concepts VERY well. However, his exams are tough. You actually got to attend lectures, pay attention and study. If you do that well, there is no reason as to why you won't be able to receive a high mark.

One of my favourite professors at UBC. He's so knowledgeable, yet humble and understanding if you dont understand a topic right away. He takes time out of his personal life to make Q&A session, besides his office hours, for all students to join in and ask questions or just listen to others ask questions. I would recommend taking any course with him

Hosking is a great professor. His online lectures were long but bearable. I did in fact enjoy them more than other online lectures, because his microphone is very clear and his format is amazing. I however, did not like taking a seminar class. Student led classes leave far too much room for error in teaching, and there was a lot of error.

I honestly do not understand how everyone likes him. His lectures are not on the same file as his audio so its difficult jumping from tab to tab. He talks really fast and jumps from point to point. I have taken several year 3 courses and nothing has ever been as difficult. No textbook class. His tests are to trick you. I hate it. worst professor.

He's an amazing prof! This was a seminar class so we had to do an online seminar (powerpoint with separate audio lectures). There were 2 exams, and the final was optional. Exams were a bit hard, but luckily one of them was optional. A bit of a hard marker but he is very reasonable! I would definitely recommend!

Jay is perhaps one of my favourite profs at KPU. His lectures are so specific and clear that I didn't bother buying the textbook because you are not tested on it. His exams are hard especially his multiple choice. You really need to know the material or you'll not do well. Due to the current COVID situation, his in class assignments are no more.

Jay is awesome! he is very clear and specific on the material and you don't need the textbook to receive a decent grade. However, his exams are tough, so you need to take tons of notes and it is best to record his lectures. I strongly recommend coming to class because he offer in-class assignments as participation marks and they worth 20%.

Nice prof but his exams are HARD! The textbook is not required in his class because everything you'll be tested is based on what he said in class, so bring a recorder. His MC are extremely HARD, you will need to find what is more right out of the four.

Don't buy the textbook, although he strongly asks to purchase! The exams questions doesn't come from the textbook, and the lecture doesn't match the textbook. The textbook virtually has no use.

Comment:
Do not take PSYCH 2350 with Jay. As much as I enjoyed him as a professor and he did try to make class engaging and interesting, he doesn't provide much on his slides and his exams are almost like trick questions. It is more "trying to find out how Jay words his exams" or "how does Jay think" rather than testing on the material.

Jay was a great prof. He was a tough grader but he warns you about it. Make notes on all the chapters included on the test and youll do okay. Overall Jay was a super nice prof and he was easy to speak with. I have a bit of anxiety and he was accommodating with it, which was greatly appreciated. I learned a lot from him

He's a nice guy. His tests are really hard so you have to study A LOT to do okay. They were worth 60% (2 Tests) and the other 40% is projects, in class assignments etc. (but the 40% is pretty much free marks) He cares about his students and you'll do well if you show up and do your readings. Awesome class would take again.

Exceptional professor! Very knowledgeable, open, and kind. Class syllabus is fair. Tests should be narrowed down to the most important information we should know as the course itself is very broad. Learning could be better based on the information we actually need to learn, so that it can be stored into long-term memory. The class was amazing!
