Comment:
I took McCargar on my second time taking this class. This was one of the hardest yet most rewarding classes I have ever had. Chemistry is not at all my passion but he made such a clear guideline to follow with a lot of examples and tons of inspiration and help. I still struggled in this class because hey it's Chemistry but managed to do much better

If you are a chemistry major or are confident in your knowledge of chemistry then this is the class for you! If you are taking this as a required course choose a different professor. He is very intelligent and has his own unique way of teaching. Learning new material with a new way of learning is twice as hard. This is more like an honors class.

Dr. McCargar is an extremely intelligent individual but is tough to learn from. He assigns work packets with problems concurrent to the material he teaches. Most of the coursework is self-taught because of this, but he expects the material to be learned at quicker than normal pace. Exams are HARD. Some up to 10 pages of problems. Tough grader.

The tests given were extremely difficult. He tried to be personable and funny, not a bad person, just not the greatest teacher.

Dr. McCargar was the worst professor I have ever had. He "teaches" solely by handing you a workbook, putting you in groups, and having you teach yourself. He was unable to clearly answer questions. Tests averaged in the 50s. We had to do a 10 page research paper that he never graded. Pretty sure final grades were how much he liked you.

Definately don't care for the textbook. He cares about his improving his teaching style and the learning process. Willing to help students and explain things differently. Very tough class and subject material. Once you get used to his expectations the class is good. He is one of my favorite profs

Incredibily difficult class and tests. He is an excellent professor who takes a genuine interest in his students. He works hard to improve the learning process. Though the class was tough I learned a lot.

Dr. McCargar is GREAT. His class is hard and he expects a lot, but he is so helpful and caring that the class doesn't seem as bad. Take advantage of his study sessions, they are helpful. All in all he is great and how many profs do you know that give you their IM so you can contact them right away? He is the best prof I have had!

Very good professor until the very end of the year when he crammed too much info in and used Power Point's that had wrong data all throughout. Otherwise, VERY helpful... quick to respond to emails, and uses the Blackboard system well. Returns most tests quickly.

Wonderful person and professor. He loves his students and will go to extremes to make sure they undestand the material. His tests are fair, and though his work load is demanding (lab), he is willng to work with the students adjust to meet their needs. He genuinely cares--need more profs like him!

not too hard, but a lot of write-up work. he works hard to help you, but makes you think to get the answer instead of just telling you. too time consuming for just a lab
