easily one of the worse professors I've ever had. Everything is subjective and he seems determined to make you fail. Textbook was useless

Comment:
Objectively, Dirk is not a great professor. He can be blunt to students, and he assigns a lot of homework. If you don't know exactly what he wants you to say, you can only get a B at best (he makes this clear throughout the course). For a 100 level course, this is a lot tougher and more in-depth than I expected. Personally, I get along with Dirk.

Comment:
One of the most awful classes I have so far. The professor is unhelpful. As a professor of film, he does approve of any idea that digresses from his narrow conception. He does not give clear grades throughout the semester. He does not seem to understand the students' workload and always pushes the students to do so much extra work.

Comment:
Do not take a class with this man. He asks too much from his students such as lengthly readings followed by weekly quizzes that are very specific as well as midterms and final exams with vague ideas on what to study for them. It is never clear what is expected form assignments and he gives poor feedback.

I don't know another way to say it then: DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE. Dirk requires so much from his students, weekly reading quizzes are on a minimum of 50 pages of, and does not provide clear expectations on assignments. He never lectures and doesn't want you to memorize definitions, but also expects you to understand concepts only majors would know.

Comment:
Prof Eitzen is one of the nicest professors I have yet to encounter. TDF165 , however, was a little underwhelming. Eitzen is fairly disorganized and the weekly reading quizzes are tough and refer to an extensive reading that will have little to no application other than the 4 question quiz. Little to no lecture, mostly in-class assignments.

Current Professor for my Bollywood Cinema class. He is great! Assigns a lot of reading but is a really interesting person to have teach you. He seems extremely passionate about film studies and I like that he enjoys teaching classes outside of his own realm of knowledge. Overall a great guy and a teacher that I have really enjoyed so far. Easy prof

Easy class, and actually practical - if you actually read the material (most of it is easy) you gain a new perspective to watching and analyzing movies. Good sense of humor, but only if you're sophisticated (i.e. not a stoned ****).
