Comment:
This prof does not not respond to emails, so questions do not get answered. Dates and deadlines are not clear, expectations for the course assignment are not clear, and it is very hard to get in contact with him. I would not recommend taking a class with this prof.

DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROF. He will take 2 weeks to reply to emails or class discussion board questions. It took him 6 weeks to give us back out grades for a 50 multiple choice question midterm worth 35% of our grade. His syllabus has zero information. If you ask a question hes rude and also barely answers the question doesnt give dates

Teaching style is very mature and philosophical. You can really enjoy of you are a mature academic person with good research background as well. Otherwise, you will not be able to understand what is going on. The teaching style is like a free bird which is quite interesting and discussion is based on many topics at one time. Very mature professor.

10/10 would NOT take again. I needed this class for my program and it brought down my average. He uses no textbook and no slides. Instead he reads documents that are full of errors and don't make any sense. Lectures are useless. Had to google everything for online exams. Did not learn anything. Is a nice guy, but god he cannot teach for his life.

I strongly advise not taking this class with him. Professor had no clear objectives for the course. His lectures were confusing and his notes weren't useful. The term group project was ill-explained about 2 weeks before the due date. Left students even more confused after asking questions. Does not respond to e-mails.

Wow. I have never hated a prof more. His lectures are a disaster. Im sure he knows what hes talking about but he goes off on tangents and never finishes the story. Nor relates it to ANYTHING that is being discussed. His lecture notes are nothing and there is no textbook. So if you wanted extra clarity. YOU DONT. please dont take his class.

Robert has a list of random terms/words in a Word document that he reads off of, and tends to go on tangents that don't really have much to do with what we're learning. It is hard to decipher what his documents actually mean unless you go to class and listen to him explain it. I find his lectures to be confusing because he doesn't stay on topic

WARNING: DO NOT TAKE ROBERT WEST. He is the most unorganized, vague, scatterbrained professor I've had at Carleton. His midterm and Final are worth 50% each and although they are open book, multiple choice exams with double-time to complete, his "notes", which are simply typed documents, are essentially useless whilst studying. Avoid at all costs!

It's possible to do well in the class, but you have to be able to put in the work yourself. His lectures are all over the place and he doesn't have slides, just typed documents. But, if you take good notes and stay organized for the midterm and exam, you'll be fine! Since you're only graded on 2 things, it's a stress free class for the most part.

Very scatterbrained professor, tends to go on tangents and then you lose track of what is relevant and what is not. This is important because he lacks a concrete lecture structure and is an overall mess in general. He seems like a nice guy but I would never take one of his courses again. It was cog psychy course but felt like it was philosophy.

He rarely answers emails, midterm and exam 50% each which had some poorly worded questions BUT open book and double time (usually takes you about the length he gives). He doesnt believe in a textbook so lectures are necessary.

profs kinda odd. Lectures are literally all over the place. I went to 2 classes total during the semester, cause lectures are that bad! however midterm and exam are both online, open book with AMPLE amounts of time. as long as you have his lecture notes organized to search things, you'll do great ! got a really good mark for only showing up twice.

I don't usually have problems with any of my professors but Robert West was without a doubt the worst prof I've had. I don't know if this is because his teaching style is very different from my learning style but I found his notes and lectures so vague I had to drop the class because I wasn't going to pass at the rate I was going

Super passionate and very knowledgeable. This course had no readings, no textbook, and only 2 tests (50% each). Each question (all multiple choice) ends up being more than 1% of your final grade. He is great to listen to in lectures but no powerpoints, only PDFs of point form documents, which have little detail. You must attend class to do well.

Funny guy so that made class interesting. He is all over the place so it's hard to tell what concepts are important. No textbook, but since he is vague in class and on his slides, it would have been better to have a textbook for definitions. Multiple choice 50% midterm and final that are difficult. This class brought down my average.

The worst prof I've ever had, received the worst grade in my university career for a class that was worth an entire credit. His lectures make absolutely zero sense, very unclear on test material. Would not recommend.

Comment:
Dr. West seems a little all over the place with his lectures. Tough to take good notes & the notes he posts aren't much help. There's a midterm and a final worth 50% each & all multiple choice. I found the midterm fair but the final had some hard questions. Don't take this class with him unless you have a real passion for cognitive psychology.
