I took this class to take care of my literature requirements and I never thought I'd enjoy this class as much as I did. He's very interesting and really enjoys talking about all of the books we read. I'd gladly take another class of his.

One of my favorite professors at OU thus far (mind you, I've been here 5 years.) Definitely worth taking. He speaks in English more than you would imagine at a 300 level class, but it's worthwhile. Three papers, but they're based off of your own views. Love him!

I only took this class for an easy literature credit but i regret it. I'm taking upper-level business classes and I spent a a lot more time preparing (reading) for this class than all my other classes combined. Tests are UNBEARABLE (almost cried). DO NOT TAKE HIM. Thought I had an A in the class until the end. Doesn't know how to grade.

Comment:
Professor Rapin was a fairly competent professor. Although others complain about his grammar course, for 370 the material was pretty clear and he relayed it in a fairly easy-to-understand way. I often thought the reading was unnecessary, because he would just retell us the story in class. He is hard on students who did not bring the class materials

I was disappointed how much English was used in this class. If you're looking to improve your Spanish, consider taking another professor. That being said, I did learn a lot about Spanish lit and could tell that Professor Rapin is passionate about this subject and is very enthusiastic. Tests were easy but his grading was unfair at times.

I had him for both 314 and 370 (SPN Lit) and he is definitely NOT a good grammar professor. He was fun and the class was extremely easy, so if that's what you're looking for, definitely take his class. But if Spanish is actually important to you and you really want to learn the grammar, which is essential to learning a language: TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.

Very nice professor that really cares about his students. He knows a lot about the Spanish language and culture. I enjoyed going to this class. His tests are very fair and he grades easily. Go to class, do the work, and you'll do great.

Easiest class ever. You can tell he really loves Spanish. For the most part, you kind of have to self-teach but his tests are all easy and he isn't a hard grader

He is a great professor. Cares about his students and is willing to compromise if you have any concerns. I recommend going through the book for exams. Plus, sometimes he brings his guitar in for a Hispanic jamming session. One of my favorites. Take him.

He didn't teach spanish very well because he spoke in English most of the time, but he truly cares about his students and is extremely nice and willing to help! He's even not a bad singer. Got a 4.0 in the class, but had to earn it. He's not a tough grader though

His Spanish is excellent, but he uses mostly English in the classroom. He is late on a daily basis and never seems to prepare. Doesn't stick to the syllabus. We waste class time watching movies in English and reading aloud in English. We never use the pricey textbook, except for vocab quizzes. It's a onversation class where nobody talks.

I am in his translation class now, and it is terrible. Professor Rapin offers little translation strategies, and worst of all, most of the translations will not appear on the tests. He is so lazy -- it's obvious that he always throws together the daily lessons, as well as the tests! He is useless!

Head of the Department, and totally useless. Sucks at teaching, and speaks more English than Spanish. If you plan on learning anything about Spanish, don't take this class. If you're just trying to graduate, then this class is perfect for you. Very little reading, he reads them out loud in class to you.

He doesn't speak Spanish very well. He's ultimately very enthusiastic, but doesn't speak like a native at all. He is pretty easy as long as you can memorize vocab. The final was an "interview," which basically meant we talked to him for 5 minutes in his office. Want an easy A? Take Rapin.

Comment:
With over two decades at OU, Prof Rapin is the longest-employed in the SPN dpt. He helped me with placement when I transferred; I've taken his SPN 370, 408, & 456. His laid-back style is not laziness. He is extremely well-educated & well-traveled, and between songs, stories, videos and bookwork, his classes are full of both education and variety
