Really good prof, but felt his test questions were ambiguous. It felt like they were asking for one thing and turned out it was for another. His assignments were rather tough as well. Attendance is mandatory to get a good grade. It's definitely not a class where you want to be on social media. Lots of notes needed all of the diagrams he shows.

His tests are pretty tough. Some of the questions are very confusing. Pretty hard marker. Doesn't give mark easily.

Great prof. Have had Dr. Ansdell for three geology classes (229, 324, and 465) and he is one of the best! Discovered quick that taking lots of notes is a must. Lectures can sometimes drag on, but, if listening, explains the material super well (making the textbook unnecessary in most cases). Extremely approachable, too!

Pretty good. Class is BORING most of the time, but it's really not his fault. Midterm was hard, a bit of a wake-up call to really start reading the text thoroughly. Marked term paper very easily. Final wasn't all that hard if you learned the lesson from the midterm. Not hard to get 80's in the class, but harder than I expected going into it.

Kevin is a deadly prof. He really knows his stuff and is very approachable (if you can get him when he's not busy being the head of the dept). If you come to class, pay attention, and do the assignments, you will do very well. Highly recommended!

Awesome guy who knows tons about geology, is great at teaching field school! :) I love his accent. Exams in other classes I took with him were tough but fair. Very helpful and goes out of his way to help students. Ignore what people taking first year with him say, he is very good prof. One of my favorites!

In spite of what you might have read below, Prof. Ansdell is not a difficult teacher. It's true that his lectures will often lag, and he does use the word 'um' alot, but his midterm and final exam are nowhere near impossible. I suggest you study your notes and read the corresponding sections in the text which flesh them out, and you'll do fine.

When I saw "deathly boring night class" below, I shrugged it off. What a mistake! This guy clearly knows everything about geology, but he could make a fortune recording his lectures on tape and selling them as sleep-aids. Essay was easy enough, but his midterm and final questions are more like brain teasers than test questions - very hard!

I like Kevin. His exams are maybe a bit too long and hard but I did well in his class. He is very good at explaining stuff in class and is a very good petrology professor. Very helpful no matter what the problem is. Good prof, I like him.

Class was interesting. Test were so hard that even if you studied you had no idea what half of the questions meant. Multiple choice questions were irrevelant to what was taught in class. His lectures at least made boring content interesting.

This guy will but you to sleep! He uses the work "um" alot. He puts questions on the midterm that you would only know if you were in the lab. So boring, not worth it. I would not recommend this class.

Deathly boring night class. The text was more interesting since it didn't drone in monotone. He never speaks enthusiastically or varies his pitch. Seems uninterested in his subject. There's a lot to cover and exams are difficult. No one asked questions after the first class because no one understood the material well enough to want clarification.

Comment:
Very approachable and nice. Slightly boring but that may be because I took it as a 3 hour night class. His tests are hard, as he likes asking questions that make you think. Go to him for help and you'll be okay. Marks easy on papers.
