only grades main 4 papers throughout the semester! online classes were full of him just talking about what students needed to read before class time, which i felt was boring. you need the books in order to pass and get good grades on the paper he assigns. very sweet man though

I love professor Baker he is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are great, he's very funny and kind. He tells you exactly what he expects of you and is always willing to meet outside of class or review any papers. He doesn't upload grades to blackboard but he always responds to emails. Take him if you get the chance!!

I literally love prof baker. He is the sweetest man and clearly loves poetry. We only had a few papers which he graded pretty easily. He doesn't use BB but is always accessible through email. BEST honors seminar!!!

So Dr. Baker is a chill guy, he got many interesting stories to share with his students. Have to write 2 small papers and 1 final paper. We had about 3 books to read, which were all very interesting. The class is discussion base, and reading the books. Not graded very heavily.

The worst professor I have ever had! Treats his 200 level class like we are all English majors taking honor/400+. I have never failed anything till this class. When I tried to approach him about it he brushed me off. He does not use Blackboard and does not make clear (in writing) what he wants on any assignments. Do not take as an elective.

Professor Baker is a gem! He's very caring and approachable and makes theory interesting despite how difficult it can be to grasp. 3 short papers and 1 longer paper at the end. All manageable and he's always there to help if you need it! Would totally recommend!

Peter Baker is a gem. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject matter and has interesting stories to tell. You read a lot, but they're pretty interesting books. Very easy grader, won't call on people at random during discussions, likes to talk. Generally a really nice, sweet guy.

Dr. Baker is incredible. I wasn't super interested in Beat Writers, and I only took this class to fill an Honors requirement. However, he has so much passion for what he teaches that he made me love it. Two short papers (he took the third one off the syllabus) and a longer final paper. Generally easy grader (he loves his Honors students). Take him!

Dr. Baker is really sweet and invested in the material. Pretty much everyone in my section had a B+ to an A in the class. 4 papers on pretty much anything you want to write about, but be prepared to buy 6 books.

Comment:
Dr. Baker is extremely intelligent, but teaches a high-level English class quite casually. There's an incredible amount of reading - skimming might save you - and it is highly discussion-based, but he doesn't call you out if you're not raising your hand. You learn so much from him, but it's definitely a heavy class. Also a merciful grader.

He treats you like an upper level English student. His books can be very dynamic and hard to understand. So if you can't understand them just read scholarly journals on them so you have something to write about for the paper. Tough, but fair.

Good class for a core: only 2 papers and a midterm and final. You'll do fine as long as you read. In class he gives a brief description of what you read, but in order to pass the midterm and final you NEED to actually read. Can be alot of reading, but it's interesting to read at least

American culture class. 4 papers, one is the midterm the other is a final. Gives the prompts before and their pretty open ended. Follow the given format and you're likely to get an A. Not a tough grader at all. Just discusses readings and shows pics each class. One extra credit group project. Great professor whos enthusiastic about his course!

professor has difficulty engaging the class. His lectures are filled with a lot of rambling stories, some of which are amusing, but few of which are related to the text. I like poetry, But I did not enjoy the subject matter, or it's presentation.

Baker is a cool guy. I'm one of those students who has a life outside of just school.. So the fact that I could handle other business while he rambled on about Zizek and Freud is cool with me. Show up, write the papers, leave. Easy A. Very accessible/understanding to students who have questions and such. Take him.

Really nice guy. Easy grader. BUY THE TEXTBOOKS. There are three 4 page papers (you are allowed to turn in one late) and one final 8-10 page paper. All of which require quoting from the textbooks. Never paid attention in class and it was still super easy to pass. Write the papers and you'll do fine.
