Comment:
Super interesting course material. A little bit lacking as far as specific instructions go (generally no printed instructions at all for labs). Very willing to answer questions and explain things to you as long as you're listening and paying attention. Overall a really good course that I would take again. Do not procrastinate your papers.

Really good guy, I enjoyed him personally and for the most part it was all fine. The tutorials could be a bit confusing at points but just tell him you guys aren't getting it and its all good. He is a really understanding guy and wants people to do well.

Comment:
Assigned one textbook and used figures from other textbooks in the lecture instead of explaining the required textbook. Went to his office hours to ask about an assignment problem and he told us we hadn't learned about it and would go over it next week. The assignment was due the next day. Very frustrating experience.

Textbook is needed to refer to for additional explaining and foundation, but Brent was more than willing to further explain any difficulties you have if asked. Fair marker, and had a sense of humour which made lectures more interesting.

Rewarded me for putting in the work, but didn't ever make it clear to me on how to do "excellent". Labs were conceptually interesting, but step-by-step written instructions on unfamiliar software were lacking.

Comment:
Is very soft spoken, and can be boring in the lower level courses, but awesome prof for the upper level courses. His awkward sense of humour really shines through and brings many relatable examples/stories to keep lectures super entertaining. He makes you work for good grades, but also will spend the time to make you understand the material.

Lectures were hard to stay focused in. Dry lecturer, but had tidbits of humour. Talks about stuff not in the textbook and then tests you on it (even though he says he won't). Slides are extremely difficult to study from for tests, mostly just pictures. Need to refer to textbook. Assignments are tough. Always takes up time after class ends to finish

Is a nice person and very intelligent himself however he does not know how to present info to those who are not as knowledgeable. Often goes very in depth without ever explaining base concepts. Words questions very poorly. Had asked about chapter references for assignments to help teach myself, was immediately denied.

Brent is fantastic. I took genetics a couple years ago and didn't really appreciate it until I got to upper level courses and I really understood some of the things Brent laid the foundation for. If it seems hard or weird now trust that it'll give you much needed groundwork later on. Thanks Brent!

Brent murray cannot teach or convey a concept to save his life. Only reason to attend class is to get the iclicker mark. Otherwise, all the course material is self taught. His tests are unevenly weighted to specific chapters. He doesnt tell you this so 70% of what you study will not be tested.

Brent is really great in a lab-based course! He has improved so much since I first had him as a prof last year! His lectures are still pretty disorganized, but he's really competent in the lab! You'll still need to work really hard to get a good great though!

Brent is an excellent prof who demonstrates a lot of patience with his students. Although his knowledge is clearly above everyone else he does a very good job at helping students by dumbing it down (provided you take the time to meet with him outside of class).
