Comment:
This is a class of discussions and not much learning in the traditional sense. There is no textbook, just weekly readings. The topics are relevant to the class and he fosters a good discussion environment in class. Asks for 2 essays over the semester and will provide good feedback on your proposals. Good class for science and engineering students.

The best prof I've ever had who shifted my entire trajectory in my undergraduate career. Because of Dr. Hira, I rethought my education, and translated it into practical, tangible and realistic tools that got me my Master's degree afterwards, and a very successful career as an Arts graduate. His focus on policy is a pure refreshment in poli sci.

Andy was a great professor, I took classes with him many years ago and I have been very successful in my career. He gave me very good advice and encouragement. He sees beyond the confines of rhetoric and can point you where you need to go. He is the best professor I had at SFU. He was a catalyst in my education and career, very grateful!

Comment:
Dr. Hira is a hard working and the only "FULL-TIME" prof in the faculty. He helps students and provides excellent feedback for improvements. Therefore, you are expected to work in a different standard. On the other hand, he is a tough grader, he assumes that student take only his course, and other life activities are "Certeris Paribus". Tough prof.

One of the most accessible and informative professors you'll find. Not an easy A but you can get a great grade if you're willing to work. I would just be careful not to to take too many intensive classes alongside one of Dr. Hira's upper division classes.

Pol 150 was definitely an interesting class! If you put time and effort into the weekly readings, and keep up to date on lectures, you'll be fine! In saying that, readings are defiantly heavy.. and theres a lot of them. At one point we had 200 pages per week. Two large papers make up your grade in the course, so take time on it!

One of the best. He is very tough but his course will definitely improve your writing ability and critical thinking. Very caring though his outward behaviour might sometimes be abrupt-- prob because he's very busy. Even if you struggling, if you show him you are trying he does his best for you. Gives the best readings for the field he is teaching.

Slackers beware, he will grill you hard for failing to study every week. Otherwise, he is honestly one of the best professors I've had the pleasure of taking a class with at SFU and really cares about the success of his students. I would recommend him to anyone looking to not only get a diploma, but an education too.

Andy is one of the quality professors at SFU. Definitely a course you will learn in but be prepared to work hard. His class is not for slackers and there is lots of discussion. He is also very flexible with his course and may make it a bit easier if you ask. Has some subtle jokes that are quite funny and his party at the end of semester was fun

I failed his first class for POL451. Why? cause I slacked. I took his other class POL 452W it was just awesome. Be prepared to work hard but if you do he really does remember you and goes beyond to help you out! He also has a party at his house at the end of the semester :)

You either love him or you hate him. There is no inbetween. Be prepared to work hard. Slackers will fail. As long as you put in the work every day, he will make it worth your while. Extremely helpful when you go see him in his office. He has a very understated sense of humor. I would recommend him personally.
