Hubberstey is one of the best profs in biomed. He's truly enthusiastic about the material and it translates to interesting lectures and real world examples. We were graded on 4 of 5 quizzes (20%), 2 assignments (2x20%), and a final exam (40%). The quizzes and exam are MC, T/F, short answer and matching. A lot of material to know but very fair.

Great class and great professor. His tests are all M/C and were very fair with no unfair surprises. There is a lot of content to cover involving different disease states, but if you go through all of his lectures you'll do fine on the exam. He offered live lectures in the Fall and seemed really excited to teach during them. Great experience!

I took his Medical microbiology class in Fall 2020. The course was designed to be self-taught therefore he did not have actual lectures. I cant comment on his ability to teach but his PowerPoints were very informative. The only negative thing I can say is hes a very slow marker.

This course is designed to be mostly self-taught and Dr. H is there to clear up any misunderstandings and highlights important slides of weekly posted lectures. The midterm and final are fair and both are MC format. We had to major assignments each worth 20% (first one he was tough on but you learn and do better on the second one). Learned a lot.

PROS: e is a great professor. He explains really well. You have to attend all lectures because all tested materials are from the lectures. CONS: If you finished your exam and travelled to the moon, stayed there for 10 days, came back, slept for 5 full days, woke up to check your grade, guess what? he hasn't posted it yet.

Explained difficult concepts very thoroughly and brought real-world examples into lectures to keep student interest. I felt that his exams were challenging (there's tons of material to cover) but fair. The assignments were weighted heavy but were easy marks to help boost your grade. Highly recommend going to class as he drops hints/bonus questions

He is one of the best lecturers I have come across. He is very enthusiastic and caring. Material presented is hard, however, if you attend class he explains things very thoroughly and clearly, he is also very approachable outside of class. All class materials are posted online. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him, don't miss it.

Hubberstey was good for Molecular Bio, but unfortunately did not seem as comfortable/knowledgable teaching Advanced Cell Bio. Material was often highly simplified in a way that made some things harder to understand. Slides were packed w/ poorly explained text, some of which was contradicted by what he said in class. Overall a big meh.

Great prof - the content is difficult and you definitely need to attend class to do well but overall a great prof. The difficult level is worth it just to have him as your professor. He is passionate about what he teaches and explains things well. I'm easily distracted in classes but his class always keeps me engaged and interested.

He was an awesome teacher who worked hard to ensure that all students understood and had access to his course material. Quizzes and assignments were always laid out the same, graded clearly and given back in a timely fashion. Overall one of my favourite professors.

I loved Dr. Hubberstey's class. He was so passionate about what he was teaching. His lectures were amazing and the tests were fair. I would take a class just because he is the prof. Textbook is not needed. He posts his slides at the end of the week so take good notes while he teaches. Nothing from the textbook is on tests.

I wasn't a fan of Hubbersteys teaching style. He had good intentions with the way he designed the course because he tests on only his lecture material, but was not clear about how to study for his exams. He will test you on the most intricate details in the slides, like gene names, protein combinations.... etc if you can memorize you will do well.

Type what he says in class. Don't waste your time copying out what's on the slides because he's going to post those later anyways. Memorize the slides and study what he discusses in class. If he has a slide with just a picture on it, know what it is. Straightforward tests. When he talks about 23andMe, take notes of his profile.

I loved going to his class - which is good because that is the only thing he tests you on! He is super helpful for any questions and takes the time to explain. He is passionate about molecular research which makes his lectures more enjoyable and exciting! Did great in his class by just studying my notes from class well! Definitely recommend it!

A great professor! Lectures can be a bit dry but try to stay focused and you'll be fine for the midterm and the final. He tries really hard to keep you interested and loves to chat with students during his office hours. Genuinely cares about students and their understanding. Barely used the textbook, slides and the stuff he says in class is enough.
