Tax is a complex topic with a lot of rules that are easy to miss. You definitely need to dedicate a lot of time and practice to succeed in both Tax 1 & 2. Hala makes everyone participate during labs but in a way it's a good thing because it forces you to stay on top of the material and not fall behind.

Hala's lectures are good but it seems like she puts more effort into being funny than teaching the material. Despite having charismatic lab instructors, labs are often pointless to go to as they just read off the solution. Hala is kind but if you're struggling in the course she isn't very understanding. Lectures are recorded but can't be sped up.

One of if not the best instructors i've had at BCIT. I enjoyed her explanation of the tough tax concepts (especially how difficult they can be). I took the course online and found how lecture notes to be very informative. Tough but fair. Even though I think she explains things very well, I agree with those who comment about the lack of feedback.

Lets not mix up the difficulty of tax with what we think of Hala. Tax is a difficult course and not fun at all but Hala gives her students all the tools they need to be successful. When she marks she provides good feedback and doesn't sugarcoat anything, as she shouldn't. Her lectures are really helpful and she is easy to talk to or ask questions.

Decided midway through the course that we were to stop using Excel formatting for tests despite teaching us up until that point to utilize it which amped up time pressure a ridiculous amount. Doesn't spend time teaching tested material and is unclear on what is expected of the student. Doesn't believe in part marks and doesn't provide solutions.

Learning tax is different. It is rules based where one idea has a hundred scenarios. Hala does a great job of trying to bridge your understanding. She has assigned readings, but I skip it unless I don't understand it. Do the problems from the readings, her assigned homework, and talk to her about what you don't understand. She's is a great teacher!

FMGT 3410 is a tough class that requires a lot of time and work to prep for quizzes and tests. Thats not the problem though. Hala is a extremely tough marker and doesnt like to give part marks out to students. Quizzes and tests are not fairly questioned or marked setting up the student for failure. Average for tests and quizzes below passing.

Genuinely one of the best profs I've ever had! She is super funny and her lectures are super easy to digest. It's really easy to go ask her for help and her explanations on how to work through problems are incredible. Wish I could take this class again just to see her. FYI she also has the best fashion sense !!

I'm always at awe at how top-notch (and hilarious) Hala's lectures are. You can tell she lives what she's doing, she doesn't keep essential information from her students. She actually guides her students instead of simply proving that she's good at what she does. And in all honesty, she is!
