Pierson is difficult because if you don't write what he believes, you fail. His class is not interesting at all, but, sadly, is a required gen-ed.

Dr. Pierson is a tough teacher, he expects a lot of his students. Exams are all take home but he grades hard. Quizzes here and there he will always tell you when you will have them. He is always willing to help his students to the best of his ability. Class is extremely boring, talks about the same thing over and over. Personally a nice guy.

It seems like a lot of people don't understand the point of Phil 101. The class is to teach you different worldviews and he test you on your knowledge of those worldviews. People saying that he grades you down for having differing beliefs, he isn't asking about your beliefs. He is testing you to see if you undersatand the worldviews from the class.

Dr. Pierson has a very strong worldview and nothing will change that. If you think differently than him you will mark you off. This class is all lecture, just 4 take home essay tests and some quizzes. It sucks. The quizzes are 10pts and they are so detailed and opinionated and you better know what his opinion is. Save yourself. Take a dif section!

The the only way you will get a good grade in his class is if you go along with his beliefs. He is an extreme homophobe. Only looks at things from a literal biblical view, and a Christian Reformed view. Horrible teacher and even worse lectures. Avoid this class at all costs.

lectures are very boring!! he uses language that is confusing, and the way he grades makes no sense. but he is very smart and will spend time with you if you need help understanding something, it may seem like the class is impossible but once you get to know him and ask for help he will do everything possible to make sure you get a good grade.

Comment:
Dr. Pierson is very unfairly criticized here. He is a wonderful professor in a very valuable class that challenges Christians to properly defend their worldview. His "beliefs" are the historic Biblical worldview beliefs. If you disagree, you just have to defend your worldview intelligently. He is NOT unfair. He is concerned for your worldview.
