Professor Yang is definitely a great instructor. What makes him shine is his clear notes and lectures, and most importantly, he wont assume you as a genius. He always get to the most important points, lead you step by step, and you will be provided with clear expectations on what would be on the exam. Strongly recommend to choose his course.

The easiest math course I've taken in my life. Dry lectures but amazing notes. 70% final seems unforgiving but he grades extremely leniently. Definitely take math classes with him for a low-stress semester.

Horrible lecturer, worse than watching youtube lectures. Only reason students like him is that he gives easy A.

I attended Math 324 given by other prof and they don't explain things as clearly as he does. Some profs even use ppt for teaching this course, but he handwrites all of the notes and it is super easy to follow steps by steps. It is supposed to be scary since Math 323 feels hard enough for me, but he reviewed the materials and made it much easier!

Def take stats course with Yang if you are not a math god. He talks slowly and explains everything in detail. He basically assumes that you wouldn't do any extra studying after class. Also, the grading scheme is designed to let everyone gets an A.

This professor is a great guy as a person but his lectures are just boring. He can definitely do a better job by preparing more before any class. Good thing is it is uncommon for you to not get an A from his class.

I found Yi Yang was very hard to learn from. He gave late instruction, was very hard to reach over Mycourses or email, and gave very little and late information about assignments and exams. Also, our midterm never got marked and entered into our grades to my knowledge.

Really easy class, and the prof made it actually interesting. He's a great lecturer and makes you want to go to class. Just do his practice midterm and final and you'll be gold.

He really does his best to make it clear what is to be expected on tests/midterms. Assignments are a great way to learn the material, super helpful so definitely take your time with them.

Easiest A in my time at McGill- by far. Not sure what the average of the final was, but going into it the class average was like an 87. Don't feel like I learned a ton but also don't feel like there is much to learn outside of theory with linear regression. His assignments require you to know R, but he helps you out in the tutorials. Major homie. Gave motivations for lessons he was teaching, and assignments and tests were relevant to the material, and not too challenging.

He's a nice guy. Perhaps a good researcher. But a terrible teacher. Covered about 50% of the syllabus, and what he did teach he didn't teach well. I don't feel like I've gotten anything out of this course - and frankly, I feel cheated by that.

Yi Yang is great. His stories were hilarious so I looked forward to his lectures. Midterm and final both have cheat sheets, so no formula memorization necessary. The practice midterm/final were basically exactly the same as the exams. But, almost none of the questions on the discussion board were answered so be persistent if you have questions.

I am in love with this man. He is so sweet and often tells funny anecdotes, isn't afraid to make fun of himself when he makes silly mistakes. Not only did he make a stats course more enjoyable, but I didn't even mind the fact that it was a 9:30 class. DO NOT be scared to take a 1st year math course!!! Also doesn't hurt that there is no readings

Makes sure you understand everything, so his lectures get redundant. Tells cute personal stories. And let's talk about his exams. WOW. He gives a practice exam for both midterm and final, and I kid you not, they are almost EXACTLY the same as the real deal. Do the practice and you'll be gold.
