Great Prof. I enjoyed going to class because the lectures were fun and the material was presented well. He is an easy-going guy, even when I see him in the hallways its easy to strike up a conversation. He explains the material in a way that you can easily understand.

He hates on people who come to ask for help by saying things like: " why don't you know this?"Additionally, he will go on random tangents which are basically irrelevant to the lecture. Will spend an hour on the easiest slide and will speed through the later, tougher slides.

Comment:
Having this man teach the intro course to a graduate NRES program is the worst decision ever made by the department. He knows nothing about methods, wastes time with irrelevant stories, and is inappropriate towards some of the women in class. This man is not fit to teach at the grad level and someone needs to address his incompetency ASAP

This is the hardest class I have ever taken. When he teaches, it really feels like I'm getting it, but as soon as it's test time, it's 10000x harder than anticipated.

Positive:Todd is enthuastic and passionate about teaching. Negative: His class material is completely off topic when quizzes are involved. He is THAT teacher who chooses the smallest sentence to quiz you on. Not easy to get an "A". Attendance not mandatory. Useless to talk to and he is not clear on assignemnts and expectations.

Very smart professor. Not very approachable in class, but very approachable in office. Calculation days are quite useful, and his humour keeps you awake in class. His multiple choice on exams are unfortunate, but written is very basic. Good Prof!

He was an alright prof. His lectures were entertaining and his calculations days were extremely helpful. The multiple choice on his tests are ridiculous, but his finals are easy and he'll drop midterms.

He is brutally awful as a prof! Goes off topic for 20 to 40 mins every lecture. Midterms do not reflect course material, but final was not too difficult. I attended every lecture and barely learned a thing.

Excellent lectures, but gets a bit off topic with his anecdotes and examples. Often confuses himself when trying to explain things with examples. Multiple choice is like a lottery, but written questions are very fair. Just fail the midterms and you can have 95% of the grade based on the final, which is much easier.

If you think you are going to learn things in the course please do NOT take it. Spent most of my time Googling things that Whitcombe taught and discovering for the most part that they were not true.

There's no doubt that the guy is smart. He probably knows everything there is to know about chemistry, but I found him to be a poor instructor. Everything I learned was thanks to the tutors in the Nucleus, where, unless you have a good amount of prior chemistry knowledge you will need to get help in order to complete the daily problem sets.

Entertaining to listen to in class, but never really teaches you anything. Goes on tangents about his life often. Makes you feel idiotic if you go to his office for help. Fair marker and fair exams.
