Dr. Zhu tends to stick to a fairly flexible schedule, but he tends to digress a fair bit and gets sidetracked into discussion frequently. You can tell he's used to teaching upper level courses. We had a midterm, final, and a paper. He gave us the test questions beforehand, and tended to be a fairly lenient marker. Great guy, read your textbook.

I took him for introduction to Asian studies. He's a nice professor, but his notes are not very helpful. It's easy to pass his class, but hard to get a good mark, there was a 10 page essay, a midterm and a final that was 3 5-page essays (with citations). If you have to take the class, make sure to do readings and go over your notes. Don't cram.

He seems like a really nice guy but as a professor is less than engaging. If you like lectures where you are there to learn the material but not be challenged to think about it he's probably great. I found him extremely frustrating as he did not encourage class discussion whatsoever

Very confusing prof. The material is interesting and his stories are quite funny and entertaining, but the exams were hard to write since it wasn't clear what will be on the tests. I wish he engaged more with the class and inspired thinking about the subject rather than just taking notes as he speaks.

The accent is not that bad. Did pretty well considering I wasn't sure what the class was about most of the time and I was pretty bored. Could be really interesting if PSCI is your major. Only reads off his notes and goes on tangents, but I can't really complain. He was helpful when I asked questions. He definitely knows his stuff!

Loved this guy. Although his style of lecturing is rather boring, he is so passionate about what he is teaching, that it keeps you interested. You have to study to do well in this class (crazy concept, right); you can't just float by. If you put the effort in you will get a great mark! I would take a class from him again.

His accent isn't that bad, really. Everything else is. I've never been able to recollect anything from what he says. He goes on tangents constantly, and you are left with little sense for what will be on a final. Zhu is a poor listener and hardly inspiring. If you, like me, find that he's confusing early in the semester: leave. It will not improve.

I love this professor. He may be a little bit hard to understand, but he makes it easy but putting his notes online. He is very nice, a good marker, and will give you an great understanding of the topic. He always makes sure you are very prepared for the final and midterm as well. I'd promote his classes to anybody!

Professor Zhu is awesome. He's one of the smartest teachers I've had. I swear you could ask him anything on Asia and he'd have a knowledgable answer. I've found that you're not tested strictly on lecture material but I came to class because I learned so much. I highly recommend him. He's very helpful and overall a nice person.

Zhu is awesome! I took two psci courses from him (220 and 323) and I learned so much. His accent is does NOT make him hard to understand and he's very helpful and supportive. Overall nice guy. Do your work, show up, and you should do very well!

Your guys are rude. Professor Zhu is awesome. Very smart guy, who seems to know everything about everywhere. I was amazed. His accent isn't that bad either. I barely read the text, and I passed with flying colors. This class is hard, but don't blame the prof. Such a nice guy too. The only issue was that class moves very fast, and powerpoint sucks

wicked dude, really hard to understand, although some people seemed ok with the accent frequently conversing with him, personally i couldnt understand a thing, so i never really went to class but he posts his notes on the net and is an easy marker so I still pulled off an 75,

Reading bad commments about Zhu makes me feel angry. Out of all PSCI profs at the U of R, I like Zhu the most. I'm going to miss him after I graduate. Keep up your good teaching, Dr. Zhu! Thanks for teaching us! People who gave those bad comments are nothing, but stupid.
