Comment:
Professor O'Neill is very understanding and gives extensions when needed. He grades kind of hard on quizzes and essays but he drops the lowest two quiz scores and he gives opportunities to rewrite your essays. Definitely not an easy A, but it's not too difficult of a class. I would take this professor again.

Just had to read a couple books, I never actually read them so you can get away with that to a degree. You have to do discussion posts, no quizzes/tests and the lectures he posts are pointless. I stopped watching the lectures after the first week bc you didnt need the info. He was pretty picky on the final project, He expects a lot of work put in

Comment:
Very hard grader with unclear expectations. Even with rewrites available and utilizing the writing center, getting a good grade felt impossible. The quizzes are very time consuming and I learned nothing due to being wrapped up in getting the work done in time. His lectures don't help with the quizzes or papers at all. Comes across as condescending.

Overall his class was easy but just get ready to do a lot of reading because you will have to read two books. You will have to read These Truths (900 pages) and you will also need to pick a monograph journal. There will be discussion boards post on both books which are pretty easy. There is also a history day project which is pretty time consuming.

Lectures were pointless to go to because you didn't do anything, I only went for participation points. His class was extremely difficult because he expected so much. You need to know every detail of the chapter in order to do well on the exams. It was a ridiculous amount of work for a history class.

Professor O'Neill is nice but if you are struggling, he doesn't put in more effort to help, instead he assumes everyone knows everything he does. The grades are very harsh and unfair and makes you feel so defeated, and he doesn't change his teaching to help those struggling. I recommend not taking his class.

Comment:
Prof O'Neill is an extremely harsh and unreasonable grader when it comes to an essay. The easiest way to earn points was through the weekly quizzes, but other than that it is very hard to maintain anything higher than a C+. Although he is very smart and generally nice person, I do not recommend taking his class at all!

Professor O'neill is nice, but a poor professor. He expects you to know as much as he does. His lectures are boring and if I didnt read the book, I wouldn't have learned much. When it comes to papers he is a very harsh grader and is very critical. I worked very hard on both paper and even rewrote them and got the same grade. I felt very defeated.

Comment:
Professor O'Neil is very knowledgeable in regards to the study of American Indian History. Lectures can get a bit long, but they are saturated with competent information related to the course. As such, readings are based upon the history, whereas lectures focus upon the study of history, with a review upon that week's readings.

I wouldn't recommend taking this professor if you are not a history major. He expects you to remember everything you have read from the book. His lectures are boring and irrelevant to any of the tests and quizzes. The readings are extremely time consuming and it is impossible to get a good grade.

His lectures are boring and you don't learn a single thing from him. He talks about irrelevant topics. He expects you read hundreds of pages and then doesn't talk about but maybe one small portion of the readings. Still an easy class, was just disappointing.

Do not take this professor!! He's a history teacher that expects you to know just as much as he does. He is very unclear about his grading scales and the hardest grader I've come across at Grand Valley. There is so much reading and a test every monday. If you are taking HST 205 I would recommend finding a different professor.

Nice guy. Class only has 2 essays and 2 exams. Quizzes every week on the reading, but he posts the questions that could possibly be on there. He is confusing about how he grades and he is a kind of hard grader. He doesn't really explain why he marks you down on a paper, which is not very helpful. Overall decent prof

If you do the work, you will do fine in the class. He gives you a list of all the possible quiz questions, so if you don't get 100% on the quizzes then thats your own fault. You are also given a list of all possible exam questions and can re-write your papers. If you don't do well in the class, it is because you are not prepared.

He is a horrible professor, try to avoid him if you can. His lectures are extremely boring and hard to follow!! He is a hard and unfair grader and expects you to know the subject as well as he does. The textbook he uses is also difficult to follow.

He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Coming to class is a struggle because he makes the material so dull. His grading scale is unclear for his paper. I learned more by reading the text at home than his lecture. Although the papers can be redone for 2/3, it's not as wonderful as it sounds. I have not heard of anyone getting near an A.

It is almost impossible to follow his lectures. He goes off on tangents and changes topics quick. He gives you the essay questions before the tests. You just have to read those sections of the book and add random details to your essays and you can ace his tests.
