HIs lectures are extremely dry. He does the typical lecturing style without an slides or technology to keep you engaged. He is a great guy, but I'm not sure I'd take another class from him.

It's obvious that Hansen deeply understands what he talks about although he's not great at communicating it to others, as the lectures are very fast-paced. But he's a very fair grader, really respectful if you ask him anything outside of class, and willing answer any questions during class. Overall, he's a pretty great prof.

Hansen is a power lecturer & I often found it hard for my hand to keep pace with his words. He could slow down a bit, I think. He's pretty clear, esp. if you've read the text. Could maybe spend more time initiating philosophical discussions. Also, I get the impression that he marks too liberally. I got 91% on a paper that probably deserved 75%-80%.

It depends on which T.A. marks your exam. Most are reasonable, but one is hard core and will give very low marks. I wish the T.A.'s would get over themselves. They must have forgotten that they are students and not professors. Dr. Hansen will not look at your exam and change the mark, which I find baffling.

He is a very smart man. He knows his subject very well...but he doesn't really make sense. Everyday he spends half the class telling us what we did the last day and the other half with new info. I had no idea what was going on all semester but made stuff up and got a great mark. He is very nice but not a great prof when it comes to clarity.

This is not an easy class. Make sure you know something about political thinkers and if not, I suggest you drop the class!! The exams are marked by TA's and they were not kind either.

Never take a specialized 100-lv course! this was intro to political philosophy. The class size was too huge to discuss such complex matters. He is a power-lecturer but should have forced more discussion. The final was 4 research type essays, and was too hard for a 100 lv. Had a great mark going in, but not after the final. I hate phil now

Takes pride in getting to know his students; many students take more than one class from him---and for a reason. Very engaging and passionate speaker, encourages questions---encourages you to visit him during office hours---even said, "I wish you could teach classes this way"; marks tests liberally.
