It is a first year course but feels more like a 4th year course. He over complicates the course and we see too much in such short period of time.

Dr. Cross is by far my favorite professor within the History department, and one of STU's best in general. His classes extremely accessible, incredibly interesting, and he is very consistent in both his grading and his expectations throughout every course he offers. Very approachable, and makes time outside of class for meetings.

Grade by participation, small class assignments on readings, a take home final that was easy, and a historiography that was awful/ stressful to write. Most of the class had to have meetings with him to discuss what To do but I somehow managed in the end to write the paper. Easy course besides that!

Not the history class I expected as its the history of how cities are created- nothing to do with people or culture but rather buildings and the layouts of cities. Had to do 8 abstracts (100words) on readings that were 30 pages. Lots of reading and then a class discussion. Do not take if you are not going to do the readings and participate. No exam

I don't know why so many people consider him to be a difficult marker. I do very little in his classes and have always pulled very good marks. He is also respectful and very easy to get along with. I have taken 3 classes from him in my time at STU and have enjoyed every one of them.

Terrible teacher. Nice to talk too, but very confusing. Lectures were all over the place and had no direction. Book was expensive and a waste of time to read!!!! Never again!

I took the intro class and he made it easier to understand university. I am probably going to major in history now instead of psych because it is more interesting.

Not a great professor. I felt very uncomfortable speaking in his class because he often said he disagreed, but then took what you said and re-worded it into more sophisticated terms later on, and he seemed very condescending. He seemed to like anyone who went on his New York trip, which wasn't bad, but be prepared to be on your own most of the time

Super likeable prof, always has readings, some videos included. Class discussions are everything. Do the readings and participate in class and youre fine. If not have fun sitting through awkward silence. Takes classes to NYC which is awesome.

this was my intro to university and it was a good basic foundation for all my other classes at university. It covered all of history back to before there was civilization up to the present. He did an awesome job of taking us through all that.

This prof has a really good idea of what I wanted to know in the course. We went on a field trip to New York City and it was amazing. You have to do the reading but its interesting stuff. Best history class I have taken so far.

If you don't do your readings or take notes in class, prepare to fail. He's a really easygoing guy who is willing to help you out, but if you're not willing to work at it, he won't waste his time. Gets more impatient towards the end of term with bad students. SO PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND CONTRIBUTE.

I do not reccommend this prof unless you are REALLY passionate about history. His lectures jump around all over the place and he is really unclear in explaining things. Also he is a pretty tough marker.

This class was amazing and Dr. Cross was the reason for this. He made the lectures incredibly interesting and used great material. He showed great passion for the subjects and used this passion to make the class fun and entertaining. He is a great speaker and makes the material easy to keep up with and understand.
