He was an advocate for inmates in custody. His was such an inspiring man that he taught me to look at things through a different lens. I am now a criminal defence lawyer thanks to Hollis.

Amazing professor. Do the readings, read his handouts, pay attention in class, and you will do fine. Passionate about teaching, justice, and genuinely cares for students. Not a course you can "breeze" through, but definitely a worthwhile course and teacher.

Anybody who says that Hollis is too hard is obviously lazy and unmotivated. Hollis gives you an amazing perspective on what is really going on, and keeps the class interesting. Put a little bit of effort into your work and read his instructions and you will do well. He is not there to crush GPAs! I hope to take another class with Hollis!

Great guy, great teacher. If you pay attention in class and do the assigned readings you will do fine. I disagree with all the comments below me saying he was an extremely hard marker and had unclear lectures.. If you show up to his class and somewhat pay attention you'll get a c+ atleast.

Great teacher, wants students to grow and succeed, if you try and pay attention you will do well, not a class you can get away with slacking off in. you get out what you put in. I may have got a bad mark but I am now in more classes with him because of it.

very enthusiastic about the subject, and often yells because he is excited. very casual guy, and very intelligent. he opened my eyes to many subjects, ones i can't believe not many people know about. i would recommend him as a prof, he knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic. not your ordinary prof

HE IS WAY TOO HARD & he seems proud of that. "They're not SUPPOSED to be easy" as he said. it was so hard i studied and could answer nothing. I'm dropping his class. Handouts are very unorganized and his lecture is VERY boring. Unfair. Nice guy, but unfair tests.

His lecture notes are non-existent. He talks to the board and not to the class, and if he does talk to the class, it's in a whisper. His midterms are hard but very fair. He's a radical criminologist and marks quite hard.

If you like confusing work and lectures, then this teacher is for you!! I went and saw him for extra help for weeks (one on one) after class but even then i had no idea what he was telling me. I loved the field trips hated the class.

Cares about his students but is hard to understand. Yells to make his points (kind of freaky)and his tests make no sense, even when you study for them. Often puts things on the exam that he didn't teach you. Very nice person, horrible teacher.

he says he marks so hard to prepare you for university, but i go to UBC now and still haven't encountered a test or teacher who marks so severely. still, he was very interesting in lectures, very passionate about what he teaches, and the prison tour is pretty cool.

He's an interesting teacher. Let's just say you don't fall asleep in class. He arranges cool field trips, and there are interesting class discussions. There are quite a bit of readings, so you have to keep up on them, but he gives you a study guide with questions that will be on the exam so generally if you know the study guide you do ok.

Hollis is a character! He totally challenges the way you think. Have an open mind, and you'll really like his lectures. Although he says he welcomes perspectives other than the radical perspective, if you're going to write about one, make sure you do your research to BACK IT UP. If you're not afraid of a little work, take him
