Comment:
He seemed really knowledgeable on the subject but taught to my class like we were all experts in geology. It was really hard to follow along in class. I wouldnt recommend this class unless youre really super interested in geology and are okay with reading a lot of technical papers that dont make a lot of sense for people outside of the field.

John is very smart, cares about his students, and is passionate. Get ready to read primary source readings and text that is difficult to comprehend. He helped me grow as a student. If you put in the work, the class is rewarding. I am a much better reader because of him pushing us. Can be confusing at times but just ask for him to elaborate.

Comment:
Weber was extremely intelligent. He knows a lot about geology and no doubt is qualified. But, he taught this introduction class like it was a level 400. Also, he is quite boring, so it's hard to pay attention. Overall, do not take this professor unless you really care about geology.

Comment:
The worst class I have ever taken, John is extremely intelligent and has a difficult time teaching material in a simplistic way. Do not even bother asking questions he will make you feel unintelligent or just reiterate the question typically in a more difficult way. I found this class more difficult then both my math and chemistry sequence.

Comment:
Worst grade I have gotten in school, and it was in my major. Grading criteria is not clear whatsoever. Reading is very very heavy, unreasonable. Responds to questions which make you feel bad/dumb for asking and when put into work, it is wrong. Expects everything from you when he gives nothing. Embarrassed to have this professor teaching my major.

You could tell he cared about geology and the students he was teaching. Amazing teacher. Didn't dumb down the material and taught students like real scientists. I wish all professors were like him.

Comment:
Incredibly difficult for an intro geology class. We have to read long research papers and studies to complete assignments that take hours outside of class to finish. The class requires extensive calculations and covering in-depth geological studies. WAY TOO HARD! He is very smart and caring but does not know how to teach he should just research.

This professor was unorganized and not clear on what was expected to succeed. Difficult class, however, may be easier with a more experienced and organized prof.

Good person, but is very vague when giving instruction. Hard tests as well and a lot of confusing readings. If you don't know how to apply your knowledge, don't take this class

The man is smart, but he's not good at teaching. He teaches like we're in a level 300+ class. Uses terms that we are unfamiliar with. We have an exam coming up and it's going to be impossible. Don't take this class. Save yourself.

Questions student's integrity on a regular basis. Dodges questions during class. Wastes time during class rambling about stuff that is not related to course material. If you use a laptop for note taking he will dock your participation grade. I got A's and B's on every assignment and somehow got a C+ for the course. Ridiculous amounts of homework.

Very intelligent, but used secondary source material for a 100 level class that was too specialized for a student who had only taken one other geology class. No clear schedule to what needs to be done when, unorganized. Very passionate about geology. A scientist first, a teacher second. I think this prof would be great if one is a geology major.

He is really smart, but he isn't good at teaching the material and he just posts a bunch of readings online...so it's almost pointless to go to class.

Probably one of the nicest professors I've ever had. He's always willing to grant huge extentions on assignments and spend that time to help you as much as possible. There's a fair amount of journalling but not as much as in other Theme 2 classes. His other assignments are tricky at worst, but generally doable. I enjoyed being in this class.
