A little dry, but a good professor nonetheless. Lectures and the book aren't really necessary to get an A. Not a terribly difficult class, just study the test terms, write good papers and you'll be fine.

Though Professor Brown is an extremely caring guy, his lectures were really boring. The tests and essays aren't too hard, the main problem is that there are only like five things in the grade book. You definitely don't have to attend class, he posts his PowerPoints online. You definitely have to put some work in, but an A is definitely attainable.

Not a lot of assignments so you need to make sure to put effort into doing well on the three exams and one paper. You must attend lecture to get the material! He's a classic university professor - all lecture and few assignments. He's not terribly entertaining but he's friendly and the material is interesting. I enjoyed my experience!

You have 5 assignments total all semester (3 tests and 2 papers). Do not wait to the last minute for them. Go to lecture, and do *everything* in your power to pay attention. He has a monotone, almost tired teaching voice, but is a very great, respectable guy. Go. To. Class. Good luck.

Dr. Brown is a great man but his class is terribly boring. There are readings assigned but they rarely supported lecture. The TA's are the ones in charge, they don't really help at all but then are tough graders. Receiving an A in this class is a challenge considering you have two essays, two midterms, and a final.

I liked Professor Brown but his lectures jump around so it it hard to follow, and your grade depends 100% on the TA's. They grade everything and have no specific rubric so each does it based on opinion - some of which are verrryyyy specific so its hard to know. 2 papers, 2 midterms and a final is all that you are graded on, so watch out!

This class had no homework. Just 2 midterms, 2 papers, and the final so in that respect it was nice. But the papers are graded by the TA's and I think your grade definitely depends on which TA grades your paper. Otherwise, you don't really have to read or go to class to do decent. Don't buy the textbook.

No homework! Gave me time to focus on other classes. But you should obviously study for the tests. Tests consist of multiple choice and an essay portion. Focus doing well on the essay. He narrows the essay choices down before the test depending on what he covers in lectures. 2 tests and two papers. Not necessary to go to lectures. No textbook use.

Stereotypical college class. Old professor, lecture, the end. You may fall asleep. Nonetheless, he is a good guy, and I'd love for him to be my grandpa. The TA's are the ones that really have control of the class. They decide your grade. Go to the reviews, understand what they want. Watch "Crash Course" history videos to prepare &/or review.

In this class the students who do nothing get a B- and the students who work hard get a B+ As are hard to come by here I believe there were 5-10 in my class of 150. His TAs grade everything so there is no consistency or grading rubric and his lectures are boring and often are unrelated to the tests but the topics are often interesting.

Very boring lectures--he's just too dry. He can be funny with his sarcasm, but that isn't enough to overcome how dull class is. TAs were ridiculous when grading essays, expected way too much detail in the essays to prove you knew what you were talking about. Entire grade is based off 2 papers, 2 exams, and a final. Exams have long essay questions.

Going to lecture is pretty important. Most of the stuff on the test is material from lecture. I hardly used my textbook throughout the course. Fill out the study guide on learning suite.. I recommend arranging the terms by culture when preparing for the tests. I had a hard time staying awake in class, but there isn't really any homework.

Tougher class, but all world civ classes are. Probably one of the better teachers to take it from. 2 papers, 2 midterms, and a final are the only assignments that are graded, so watch out.

Dr. Brown's not a bad teacher, but he's pretty dry. It's a little unclear what he's looking for at first, but you figure it out. Just make sure you use the study guides on learning sweet from the get go and you'll be fine. I barely used the book, and if you get the study guides filled out well the tests aren't bad.

First of all, I don't understand why I even need to take this class... Professor Brown is extremely boring and likes to stray off and talk about things that won't be on the tests. He assigns tons of reading, but it is really unnecessary. Not too hard. Just study what is on the study guide.

Professor Brown knows his stuff, but he was so boring. I was lucky to have taken AP World History beforehand, because I fell asleep in lecture all the time. The papers he has you write are also long and dry. The tests aren't terrible; just make sure you know your stuff and can write a decent essay. Ask the TAs for help and you'll be just fine.

Dr. Brown knows a ton but his lectures can be a little dry. The tests were very difficult for me, but I filled out the study guide during his lectures and tried to learn everything surrounding that term. It was helpful to ask the TAs for feedback on my sample thesis and outlines before the three exams. Only 5 things determine your class grade.

As far as options for Hist 201, I feel like he reasonable. My gripe was probably all of the writing. I am a good writer, but I loathe actually doing it. 3 tests, each with an essay prompt, requiring 5ish paragraphs handwritten. And 2 other (typed, of course) papers outside of class. Prepare good essays + Study the guide given Doable 'A'.

Prof Brown was frustrating at first because I had no idea what notes to take, but after the first test I figured out what his expectations were and class was a lot more smooth. Make sure you take notes FROM the study guide (found on Learning Suite) and fill in the terms he talks about. It makes test prep significantly easier! Overall good class.
