I have taken 6 courses with Professor Ringer. She is also my thesis advisor. This demonstrates how I feel about her and her teaching. She is amazing and I would highly recommend her courses. She is inspirational and will help you improve your work no matter where you are in your intellectual journey. Her feedback on essays detailed and useful.

Prof Ringer is one of my favorite professors! Super smart and approachable. She's a fair grader and always willing to talk with you before you hand in your paper. Usually doesn't assign too much readings, although they are sometimes dry and theoretical. Highly recommended if you like the history of theories and ideas.

Comment:
Expectations for papers were extremely unclear. In general didnt seem to care about argumentation, but only if you got _her_ answer. Obstinate about her "theoretical framework." Not too much reading, but the secondary sources were, almost without exception, disastrously uninteresting. Deadlines timed to coincide with the densest readings.

Comment:
Lectures were really hit or miss. Mostly miss. TA graded essays absurdly easily, but Monica Ringer graded the final and gave everyone Fs as far as we could tell. Based on how she had treated the course up until then, her expectations for the final were unfair and unrealistic.

Generally personable, intelligent, and knowledgeable. Tends to focus on history of ideas more than history of events.

One of the few professors I've ever had who actually challenge you to write better. Low BS tolerance. Very knowledgeable, efficient, and competent. One of the best in the department.

Taught a class at UMASS. Really nice professor but really bad at teaching. She expected a lot of prior knowledge about the middle east, which I didn't have. Half the time I had no Idea what she was talking about. Essays were graded easily by the TA. Definitely need to go to class to do the final.

Women in the Middle East was one of the most difficult yet rewarding classes I've ever taken. She is an absolutely amazing teacher who will demand substance from you... you can't B.S anything. She's really tough. lots of small papers+a final paper = about 40+ pages of writing. It will be one of your harder classes, keep it in mind, BUT TAKE IT!!!!

Ringer is my favorite professor at the college. She demands high quality writing, so don't slack in her class. She is very supportive of students and keeps her classes small.

Paper topics were a little unclear, but she'll spend tons of time helping you improve your paper. I wish there had been more lecture instead of discussion, but I feel like that with most courses...

As a senior, this class has easily been among the worst I have ever taken. Class material completely unrelated to paper topics, lectures dreadfully boring, no class participation...
