He means well, but he isn't the best teacher. I ultimately had to drop his class as he is not very understanding of students with disabilities. He seems to only be a professor so he can get published in journals not in order to teach. If you go to his office hours he will talk in riddles and you won't get much help. Also brings up politics too much

Not a bad guy, needlessly undercuts Trump sometimes. Would prefer if political opinions were kept out of class. ENDLESS readings that aren't relevant to course, pop quizzes, and insanely high expectations yet ZERO explanation of those expectations. Is not clear with instructions at all, has clear favorites and non-favorites as well. Avoid.

He's a really great guy and can sometimes be cool during class, but the papers are so long and boring. The readings are super hard to read and long. There are so many readings. He expects a lot but doesn't explain things in great detail. All that we do during class is discuss the reading which gets old after a while.

i thought his British accent was refreshing funny and added to the class experience at some points i couldn't' contain laughter when he posed questions in a funny way and no one responds . with that being said he bases the classes around the readings which nobody wants to read on a Friday night in Iowa city. cool guy my kind of teacher tho.

Gives the worse and most unhelpful feedback for assignments. Very boring class structure - mostly consists of him asking a thousand questions to the class while no one answers. Doesn't acknowledge it but he expects a lot out of his students. Readings are so long and boring

English accent. Exams are about 90% readings, and 10% lecture.

Class was very hard and lots of work. Pop quizes in discussion but if you actually do the reading and pay attention in lecture they are very easy. Two very long and boring papers, but final and midterm is easy as long as you pay attention in class and do the required readings.

The lectures in this class are very boring and consist of a series of questions with no actual answers. Yablon is boring and my TA didn't even know why some of the readings were assigned. Avoid the class if you can.

He is very cool and nice. The trick to his class is to do the readings assigned on the syllabus. If you do that and glance over the slideshows every now and then, this is a very easy class. The grading is fair and not a whole lot of memorization. I am an American Studies major because of him. He is very cool.

Took this class because I needed the credits but ended up enjoying it. More work than average gen ed class and not easy to get an A or B (you have to do the readings) but his lectures were quite interesting and made me change my major to American Studies.

Worst class ever. Seriously don't take it.. professor and TA's are terrible and there is so much reading its impossible to remember anything you have read. Lectures put you to sleep and the tests are ridiculous. Worst class I have ever taken.

I completely regret taking this class. So much so that I've changed my major to avoid Yablon. His lecture's are just a bunch of questions and when you talk to him one on one, you get the sense he wishes he was elsewhere.

The material is sometimes interesting, but usually is rather dry. No one has an A in this class. Do NOT take it, at all costs. You will regret it - unless you like reading 250 pages a week, going to all lectures and discussions, and yet somehow getting a low B.

Prof Yablon's accent and how passionate he gets about the subject can be very entertaining, although the lectures themselves can get a bit boring. LOTS of reading but only two semi-difficult papers and two pretty easy exams. Overall not a bad class

You can definitely tell he likes what he's talking about, but he's all over the place and emphasizes the weirdest points. Maybe because he isn't American? This class was not at all what I hoped it would be. It sounded fun and all about pop culture. WRONG. The tests are weird, so do the reading. Know what you're getting into beforehand.
