Comment:
Dr. Yoo was great for this class. He works a ton of examples during lectures which I found to be helpful. There's a lot of work for this class (material was divided into six modules, one exam, HW, and Quiz per module), but it was all straightforward. Exam problems are exactly like the HW. Easy A if you take the time to do the HW and pay attention.

Dr. Yoo is a very kind professor. He was one of the most prepared teachers I had regarding the transition to online, and he was very often available to help students. His English isn't the best sometimes, but overall it's not too bad. The final was mostly based on previous quizzes and main concepts from lectures. If you take notes you'll be fine.

I loved Dr. Yoo! He was super understanding about the change in format (switching to online), but even before that I did not have trouble in the class. Sometimes he does not understand what you are meaning when you ask a question because English is not his first language, but he will spend time trying to help you understand. 10/10 would recommend!

SUCH a nice guy and so understanding, but this class is just horrible with him. He is very quiet and hard to comprehend if you're not on the front row. He mostly just goes through powerpoints and isn't great at explaining them. However, if you do and understand the homework (don't chegg it) and practice problems you will be prepared for the tests.

Comment:
Extremely hard to understand and absolutely abysmal at explaining things. Just blindly goes through the powerpoint slides. He isn't extremely familiar with the material and is likely to mess up on example problems. Hopefully you'll learn something from the homework assignments because coming to class is anything but helpful. Good luck!

Good lecturer as long as you listen closely. Very intelligent. Posts videos of all the lectures online, & it helps to go back and rewatch them if you're not sure on any of the material. Doesn't always understand questions asked in class (language barrier, understandable), so it's better to write questions down & Google later. Gives partial credit.

Yoo is actually a pretty solid professor for 221. The material is eh, but if you go and try your best to listen you'll be able to make the connections and understand what's going on. Really nice, soft-spoken guy and he tells you exactly what's going to be on the test; doesn't play any tricks on you. Homework/tests can be kind of tough, so study.

Great instructor, really knows his stuff. We had 2 tests, 7 homeworks (3 of which were pretty easy Assembly language programming assignments) and the comprehensive final. He tells you exactly what to study for tests and covers most of the homework problems on the board in class. Unlike some people here, I had zero problem understanding him.

Had for 212 it was AWFUL, CPE 221 he actually isn't bad. 3 projects, he gives you a decent amount of the code. Homework isn't excessive & the test he tells you what you need to know. Very straight forward with most of the class, english isn't the best but just look at his class notes & you should have no problem. Surprisingly decent

Great Professor. If you understand the material, you will be able to do his homeworks really fast. Most of the test questions are based on homeworks. You will get help from him any time you need.

doesnt understand English so you can't ask ANY questions. Projects are time consuming. His quizzes are memorizing definitions, but his test are all multiple choice. He gives slides & if you only study those you can atleast pass the class, but not with a high grade. If you are good at programming prior to class you'll do fine, if not run!!

Avoid taking him for CPE212 at all costs. He teaches the material very poorly, with little to no examples. He speaks poor English; therefore, you can't ask him questions easily. Lastly, the homework he gives is entirely too difficult for the course, taking even the smartest people in class around 40 hours per project.

His teaching is horrible. He makes no sense with his examples and simply reads off of the slides and his notes. He rarely understands the questions being asked in class, and his answers are never related to the question. I do NOT suggest getting this teacher.

GREAT Teacher. He will answer any question you have. Most of the HW answers are on the web but DONT just copy them...make sure you understand them! He is very helpful in his Office Hours the whole semester and not just the finals week. He is a great guy that wants everyone to do well in the class.

He's a pretty good teacher, the class can be confusing though. He doesn't try to trick you with homework or exams. He gave the option for bonus credit (10% overall grade) to write a 5-page paper. Gives lots of partial credit.

terrible terrible terrible terrible teacher. i really just cant stress it enough. you wont be able to understand him well, and i can promise he wont be able to understand you. even IF he spoke perfect english, his examples are useless and his method of lecturing is sporadic and frustrating. do i really need to say to avoid him?

I had him for CPE321/EE321. First of all, he is Korean. He has a little bit of trouble speaking CLEARLY, but I believe his English is just fine. If you must take his class, go for it. However, if you can wait, there are other teachers who offer this course that are American. Easy class and course material. Take the time, and you'll pass easy.
